Nantawarra
Nantawarra is a locality in South Australia located about north of the Adelaide city centre and within the local government area known as the Wakefield Regional Council. The locality occupies land on both sides of Highway 1 between Port Wakefield in the south and Snowtown in the north. Nantawarra is recognisable from a distance by the presence of the disused grain silos immediately just east of the Adelaide-Port Augusta railway line. The name Nantawarra may derive from the word ''nantuwara'' (meaning a northern yerta, or family group) in Kaurna, the language of the indigenous people of this part of South Australia. In June 2023, the grain silos were planned to be demolished, with uproar from the local community. The silos were demolished in January 2024. Goyder, South Australia
Goyder (; postcode: 5461) is a locality in South Australia's Mid North situated in the central east of the cadastral Hundred of Goyder. It was named for the hundred (proclaimed 1862) which was in turn named for George Goyder, Surveyor General of South Australia at the time. The locality is bounded on the west by the Adelaide-Port Augusta railway line. The Black Range stretches north–south through the locality from the foot of Mount Templeton outside the northern boundary of the locality. Similarly, the Bismark Valley (thought to be named in jest by early settler families of German origin for Otto von Bismarck) runs north to south through the centre of the locality. Beaufort is a locality along the Augusta Highway in the Mid North region of South Australia. The town was surveyed in November 1878 and gazetted on 4 September 1879. Whitwarta, South Australia
Whitwarta is a town in South Australia. The town is situated beside the Wakefield River (known as ''Undalya'' to the Indigenous people) about 100 km north of the state capital, Adelaide. The name ''Whitwarta'' means freshwater (distorted from Whitarter), a reference to the freshwater springs that exist along the pronounced bend in the river nearby. The constant availability of freshwater along an otherwise dry river (the Rocks upstream of Balaklava is the next closest and permanent waterhole) meant that Whitwarta was a suitable place to establish a village. Approximately 20 people now live in the village. Geographically, Whitwarta is situated on the plains, almost halfway between the Clare Valley and Skilly Hills to the East and the Southern Hummocks Ranges to the West. The Yorke Peninsula Field Days is a biennial, three-day field days event, held on a permanent site outside Paskeville on Yorke Peninsula, South Australia. The event has a major focus on agriculture. The event is the oldest field days event in Australia and one of the biggest, exhibiting millions of dollars' worth of farm machinery. Bumbunga is a locality in the Mid North of South Australia north of Adelaide. It lies east of Lake Bumbunga. According to anthropologist Norman Tindale the name was derives from ''parnpangka'', the local indigenous (Kaurna) term for 'rain water lake', referring to Lake Bumbunga. Kaurna Language
Kaurna ( or ) is a Pama-Nyungan language historically spoken by the Kaurna peoples of the Adelaide Plains of South Australia. The Kaurna peoples are made up of various tribal clan groups, each with their own ''parnkarra'' district of land and local dialect. These dialects were historically spoken in the area bounded by Crystal Brook and Clare in the north, Cape Jervis in the south, and just over the Mount Lofty Ranges. Kaurna ceased to be spoken on an everyday basis in the 19th century and the last known native speaker, Ivaritji, died in 1929. Language revival efforts began in the 1980s, with the language now frequently used for ceremonial purposes, such as dual naming and welcome to country ceremonies. Classification Robert M. W.
