Nanomantidae
The ''Nanomantidae'' are a new (2019) family of praying mantises, based on the type genus '' Nanomantis''. As part of a major revision of mantid taxonomy, genera and tribes have been moved here, substantially replacing the old family Iridopterygidae. The new placement is in superfamily Nanomantoidea (of group Cernomantodea) and infraorder Schizomantodea. The recorded distribution of genera includes: Africa including Madagascar, the Himalayas, SE Asia through to Australia and Pacific islands. Subfamilies, tribes and selected genera The ''Mantodea Species File'' lists four subfamilies: Fulciniinae * tribe Fulciniini ** '' Calofulcinia'' Giglio-Tos, 1915 ** '' Fulcinia'' Stal, 1877 ** '' Hedigerella'' Werner, 1933 ** '' Ima'' Tindale, 1924 ** '' Inimia'' Connors, 2023 ** '' Machairima'' Beier, 1965 ** '' Nannofulcinia'' Beier, 1965 ** '' Papugalepsus'' Werner, 1928 ** '' Pilomantis'' Giglio-Tos, 1915 ** '' Tylomantis'' Westwood, 1889 * tribe Neomantini ** '' Kongobatha'' ...

Inimia
''Inimia nat'' is a species of mantis in the family Nanomantidae, and it is the sole species in the genus ''Inimia''. It is found in south-eastern Queensland, Australia. Etymology This species was first discovered with the aid of the citizen science platform iNaturalist. Following standard practice for binomial name In taxonomy, binomial nomenclature ("two-term naming system"), also called binary nomenclature, is a formal system of naming species of living things by giving each a name composed of two parts, both of which use Latin grammatical forms, altho ...s, ''Inimia nat'' may be abbreviated to ''I. nat''. Its name is wordplay by the authors to pay homage to iNaturalist, which itself is sometimes abbreviated to ''iNat''. Paraoxypilus
''Paraoxypilus'' is a genus of mantis, known as the boxer bark mantises. They are native to Australia and Oceania. Description This genus gets its name from the unusual way it acts like and resembles a boxer. Boxer bark mantises are black with hints of grey and white. They can mimic an ant due to its small size and its ant-like abdomen and small bumpy thorax. It does this to avoid predators and is excellent at camouflage. The insects reach long as adults, while small nymphs are only . Although some mantises are kept as pets, this genus of mantis is generally not, due to the difficulties presented by its small size. Schizomantodea
Mantises are an order (Mantodea) of insects that contains over 2,400 species in about 460 genera in 33 families. The largest family is the Mantidae ("mantids"). Mantises are distributed worldwide in temperate and tropical habitats. They have triangular heads with bulging eyes supported on flexible necks. Their elongated bodies may or may not have wings, but all mantodeans have forelegs that are greatly enlarged and adapted for catching and gripping prey; their upright posture, while remaining stationary with forearms folded, resembling a praying posture, has led to the common name praying mantis. The closest relatives of mantises are termites and cockroaches (Blattodea), which are all within the superorder Dictyoptera. Mantises are sometimes confused with stick insects (Phasmatodea), other elongated insects such as grasshoppers (Orthoptera), or other more distantly related insects with raptorial forelegs such as mantisflies ( Mantispidae).
