Nandimukh
Nandimukh is a drama group based in Zila Shilpakala Academy in Chittagong, Bangladesh. The group stages creative and contemporary drama productions, currently led by playwright Abhijit Sen Gupta. As a theatre troupe, they organize international drama festivals. History Nandimukh was founded on the island Divvanshu Kuamar on November 16, 1990. It has staged 14 productions with roughly 1,000 performances to date. The drama troupe focuses on themes such as rebellion, songs of revolution, liberation and war, freedom movements, humanity, and non-communal consciousness. Additionally, they hold festivals to honour promising playwrights. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (; ) or simply known as Shilpakala Academy is the principal state-sponsored national cultural centre of Bangladesh. It is a academy of fine and performing arts. History It is the national academy of fine and performing arts. The academy was established through an act of Parliament in 1974 as a statutory organization under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. But subsequently the Act of 1974 of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy was amended through a new act of Parliament in 1989. The academy is headed by a Director General. The overall direction for the functioning of the academy is provided by an Executive Council (Shilpakala Academy Parishad) headed by the Minister in charge of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Bengali theatre primarily refers to theatre performed in the Bengali language. Bengali theatre is produced mainly in West Bengal, and in Bangladesh. The term may also refer to some Hindi theatres which are accepted by the Bengali people. Bengali theatre has its origins in British rule. It began as private entertainment in the early 19th century. In the pre-independence period, Bengali theatres played a pivotal role in manifesting dislike of the British Raj. After the independence of India in 1947, leftist movements in West Bengal used theatre as a tool for social awareness. Binodini Dasi
Binodini Dasi (1863–1941), widely known by her stage name Noti Binodini, was a pioneering Indian Bengali language, Bengali actress, writer, and theatre personality of the 19th century. She began her acting career at the age of twelve in the Bengali theatre, a domain traditionally dominated by men, and achieved widespread fame for her portrayals of mythological and historical female characters. Despite her immense popularity and critical acclaim, Binodini retired from the stage by the age of twenty-three. Her premature departure was influenced by the social stigma attached to women performers during that period.
