Nand Kumar Patel
Nand Kumar Patel (8 November 1953 – 25 May 2013) was an Indian National Congress politician from the province of Chhattisgarh. He was elected to the Kharsia Assembly Constituency five times in a row (1990, 1993, 1998, 2003 and 2008). He was a cabinet minister in the state governments of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. He was kidnapped and killed by Naxalites during the 2013 Naxal attack in Darbha valley. On 25 May 2013, news broke that several Congress leaders were killed in a Naxalite attack on a Congress convoy. At first, Naxalites claimed to have kidnapped Nand Kumar Patel and his son Dinesh keeping up the hopes of their coming back alive. However, their bullet-ridden bodies were found in the Jiram valley in the Bastar district the next day. A Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) is a representative elected by the voters of an electoral district (constituency) to the legislature of State government in the Indian system of government. From each constituency, the people elect one representative who then becomes a member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). Each state has between seven and nine MLAs for every Member of Parliament (MP) that it has in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of India's Bicameralism, bicameral Parliament of India, parliament. Salwa Judum
Salwa Judum (meaning "peace march" or "purification hunt" in the Gondi language) was a militia that was mobilised and deployed as part of counterinsurgency operations in Chhattisgarh, India, aimed at countering Naxalite violence in the region. The militia, consisting of local tribal youth, received support and training from the Chhattisgarh state government. It was outlawed and banned by a Supreme Court court order but continues to exist in the form of armed auxiliary forces, District Reserve Groups, and other vigilante groups. On 5 July 2011, the Supreme Court of India, in a case filed by Nandini Sundar and others, declared the militia to be illegal and unconstitutional and ordered its disbanding. Harvansh Singh
Harvansh Singh (November 11, 1949 – May 14, 2013) was an Indian politician. He was born in the village of Bindrai, Chhindwara district, Madhya Pradesh state, India. He was a farmer by profession, and held a graduate degree in Commerce & Law and a postgraduate degree in Arts. Singh initially held the position of President of the Seoni district Youth Congress Committee in 1971. He then was the vice-president of MP State Handloom from 1983 to 1986, and chairman from 1986 to 1988. He was president of Pradesh Congress Sevadal from 1986 to 1989, and became chairman of Madhya Pradesh Textile Corporation. Singh then had a long career in politics. He became General Secretary of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee in 1992. In 1993, Singh was elected a member of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Keolari constituency.
