Nancy (Boyd) Willey
Nancy (Boyd) Willey 1902–1998, was an American environmentalist and historic preservationist from Sag Harbor, New York. She was the founding president and historian for the Old Sagg-Harbour Committee. Early life Nancy was born in Southampton, and grew up in Park Slope. Her mother, Annie Cooper Boyd, is a painter of the Shinnecock Hills Summer School of Art style. Her family has lived in Sag Harbor for generations, her grandfather was William Cooper, a prosperous boatbuilder and son of a Whaler. Nancy graduated from Barnard College in New York City with a Degree in Sociology. There she met her future husband, (Dr.)Malcolm Macdonald Willey. They married in 1924. In 1932 the Willey's, a young, relatively middle-class family, responded to Architect Frank Lloyd Wrights published autobiography by writing to his publisher and requesting a meeting. The history of New York begins around 10,000 B.C. when the first people arrived. By 1100 A.D. two main cultures had become dominant as the Iroquoian and Algonquian developed. European discovery of New York was led by the Italian Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524 followed by the first land claim in 1609 by the Dutch. As part of New Netherland, the colony was important in the fur trade and eventually became an agricultural resource thanks to the patroon system. Northwest Alliance
The Northwest Alliance is a New York state based organization of citizens formed in the early 1980s whose goal was to gain protection of two unoccupied parcels of East Hampton, Long Island, comprising The Grace Estate, Barcelona Neck, Northwest Creek, Little Northwest Creek and Northwest Harbor. History The early activists group, Cathy and Tom Lester, Stuart Vorpahl, Arnold Leo, Helena Curtis and other concerned south fork residents pushed for the town to acquire both land parcels. This acquisition gained protection of the Sag Harbor side of Northwest Creek and the body of the southeastern shore of Northwest Harbor to Little Northwest Creek. Sag Harbor Village District is a national historic district in Sag Harbor, Suffolk County, New York. It comprises the entire business district of the village. Custom House (Sag Harbor, New York)
The Sag Harbor Custom House is a historic house located in Sag Harbor, Suffolk County, New York, originally built around 1770. The Sag Harbor Custom House is best known for being the home and office of Henry Packer Dering (1763–1822), one of Sag Harbor's first customs master and postmaster following the harbor's designation as a United States Federal Port of Entry in 1789. The house has been altered and many efforts to restore it have been made throughout the years, including the house's relocation to its current site to save it from demolition.
