Namsos Line
The Namsos Line () is a railway line between the village of Medjå and the Namsos (town), town of Namsos in Trøndelag county, Norway. The line branch line, branches off from the Nordland Line at Grong Station and runs through Grong Municipality, Overhalla Municipality, and Namsos Municipality. The line largely follows the river Namsen (and it crosses the river twice). The section from Grong (village), Grong to Skogmo is maintained, although not used for ordinary traffic. The section from Skogmo to Namsos is closed, but the infrastructure remains. Planning of the line started in the 1870s and it was originally thought as part of the Nordland Line. This resulted in a debate of whether the Nordland Line should run from Steinkjer (town), Steinkjer via Beitstad and Namsos to Grong (the Beitstad Line) or via Snåsa (village), Snåsa to Grong, with a branch to Namsos. Namsos (town)
Namsos is a List of towns and cities in Norway, town and the administrative center of Namsos Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located on the north side of the mouth of the river Namsen, where it flows into Namsenfjorden. The village of Spillum lies across the river on the south side. The Norwegian County Road 17 runs through the town and just east of the town is Namsos Airport, Høknesøra. The town was the terminus of the Namsos Line from 1933 until its closure in 2002. The town is the site of the Namsos Hospital which serves the whole region. Namsos Church is located in the town centre. The town has a population (2024) of 8,422 and a population density of . Namsos Church
Namsos Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Namsos Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the centre of the town of Namsos, just north of the mouth of the river Namsen. It is the church for the Namsos parish which is the seat of the Namdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The large, brick church was built in 1960 to replace the previous one which was bombed and burned during World War II. The rectangular church was built using plans drawn up by the architect Ola B. Aasness and it seats about 622 people. The church also has a free-standing bell tower on the south side of the main building. History The town of Namsos was established in 1845 and it was not until 1859 when the first church was built in the town. Namsos Airport (; ) is a regional airport located at Høknesøra along the Namsen river, just outside the town of Namsos in Namsos Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The airport is served with Dash 8 aircraft from Widerøe on public service obligation contracts with the Ministry of Transport and Communications. Namsos Idrettslag is a Norwegian sports club from Namsos Municipality in Trøndelag county. It was founded on 28 November 1904.
