Namchi is a city and the administrative headquarter of the Namchi district in the Indian state of Sikkim. The appellation Namchi means ''Sky (Nam) High (Chi)'' in Sikkimese. Sherpa Language
Sherpa (also Sharpa, Sherwa, or Xiaerba) is a Tibetic language spoken in Nepal and the Indian state of Sikkim, mainly by the Sherpa. The majority speakers of the Sherpa language live in the Khumbu region of Nepal, spanning from the Chinese (Tibetan) border in the east to the Bhotekosi River in the west. About 127,000 speakers live in Nepal (2021 census), some 16,000 in Sikkim, India (2011), and some 800 in the Tibetan Autonomous Region (1994). Sherpa is a subject-object-verb (SOV) language. Sherpa is predominantly a spoken language, although it is occasionally written using either the Devanagari or Tibetan script. Jorethang
Jorethang is a major town in Namchi district in the Indian state of Sikkim. Jorethang lies on the bank of Rangeet River, which is a tributary of the Teesta River, on the way to Pelling from Darjeeling, Siliguri and Kalimpong. Jorethang is and has been a major connecting route towards the western part of Sikkim where people from various districts of West Sikkim visit here for consumption of various goods and services. Melli
Melli (also spelled Malli) is a town on the West Bengal-Sikkim border near the River Teesta. The town consists of two markets, one lying on NH10 in Kalimpong district of West Bengal and the other in Namchi district of Sikkim. Melli Railway Station of Sevoke-Rangpo Railway Line lies in the Kalimpong district part of Melli. Melli in the Nepali language means "the place where the dead are cremated". Melli is one of the few towns in India that lies in two different states Kalimpong district of West Bengal and Namchi district of Sikkim.
