Nambuangongo
Nambuangongo is a municipality in the Bengo Province of Angola, with its seat in the city of Muxaluando. History During the Angolan War of Independence, one of the most notable episodes of the conflict occurred in this municipality when, on March 15, 1961, guerrillas from the Union of the Peoples of Angola (UPA; later FNLA) attacked the farms in the region, killed numerous farmers, and caused the rest to flee. They then occupied the central commune of Nambuangongo and declared the locality as the capital of the " Free State of Angola," marking the first experience of a liberated Angolan territory with self-government post-World War II. The iconic capital, Nambuangongo, would later be recaptured by Portuguese troops, led by Lieutenant Colonel Armando Maçanita, in an operation that took place from July 4 to August 10 of the same year, known in history as Operation Viriato. The Angolan War of Independence (; 1961–1974), known as the Armed Struggle of National Liberation (Portuguese: ''Luta Armada de Libertação Nacional'') in Angola, was a war of independence fought between the Angolan nationalist forces of the MPLA, UNITA and FNLA, and Portugal. It began as an uprising by Angolans against the Portuguese imposition of forced cultivation of only cotton as a commodity crop. As the resistance spread against colonial authorities, multiple factions developed that struggled for control of Portugal's overseas province of Angola. There were three nationalist movements and also a separatist movement. The war ended when a peaceful coup in Lisbon in April 1974 overthrew Portugal's '' Estado Novo'' dictatorship. Bengo is a Provinces of Angola, province of Angola. Its capital is Caxito. It has an area of 31,371 square kilometres, and its population as of the 2014 Census was 356,641. The province was created in 1980 by dividing the original province of Luanda Province, Luanda into Bengo and a new smaller province of Luanda. Dembos is a municipality in the Bengo Province of Angola. The municipal seat is the city of Quibaxe. In 2014, it had a population of 28,202. It is bordered to the north by the municipalities of Nambuangongo and Quitexe, to the east by the municipality of Bula Atumba, to the south by the municipality of Pango Aluquém, and to the west by the municipality of Dande. Ambriz
Ambriz is a village and municipality in Bengo Province, Angola. It is located 127 km from the town of Caxito. It borders the municipality of N'zeto, Zaire Province, to the north and the municipality of Dande to the south. Demographics The population of Ambriz totals 20,000, of whom the majority are Bakongo; there are also Portuguese descendants, and people of mixed Portuguese-African ancestry. The population includes people of the Ovimbundu and Kimbundu ethnic groups. Economy Fishing is the traditional activity and low-scale agricultural activity. In the past, Ambriz had an oil and gas platform assembly yard (PETROMAR), which was destroyed during warfare in 1992. The base is being reconstructed.
