Nalam Krishna Rao
Nalam Krishna Rao was an accomplished Telugu writer, magazine editor and social activist. He was born at Mandapeta in East Godavari district on 18 January 1881. He founded Gowthami Grandhalayam at Rajahmundry in 1898. Rao supported eradicating the social evil of the caste system and strongly supported widow remarriages. Every year, Telugu University presents endowment awards to writers, artistes and critics. Telugu Language
Telugu (; , ) is a Dravidian language spoken by Telugu people predominantly living in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where it is also the official language. It is the most widely spoken member of the Dravidian language family and one of the twenty-two scheduled languages of the Republic of India. It is one of the few languages that has primary official status in more than one Indian state, alongside Hindi and Bengali. Telugu is one of six languages designated as a classical language (of India) by the Government of India. Mandapeta
Mandapeta was originally called "Mandavyapuram", which came from Sage Mandukya. Mandapeta is a second-grade municipality established on October 1, 1958 in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema District in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located at mean elevation of about 15.48 msl at 16.520 N, 81.560 E. According to the 2011 census, the population of the town was 56,063 and total number of households was 15,444 and spread across an area of 30.65 sq. km. The current population of the town is 63,004 and total no. of households (HH) is 17,681 with population growth rate of 1.1 which is divided into 30 election wards. The municipal boundary and current population is used for preparation of SFD. As per the slum survey, there are 20 notified slums in Mandapeta with a total population of 20,153. East Godavari District
East Godavari is a district in the Coastal Andhra region of Andhra Pradesh, India. Its district headquarters is at Rajahmundry. As of census 2011, it became the most populous district of the state with a population of 5,151,549. In the Madras Presidency, the District of Rajahmundry was created in 1823. It was reorganised in 1859 and was bifurcated into Godavari and Krishna districts. During British rule, Rajahmundry was the headquarters of Godavari District, which was further bifurcated into East Godavari and West Godavari districts in 1925. When the Godavari district was divided, Kakinada became the headquarters of East Godavari and Eluru became headquarters of West Godavari. Gowthami Grandhalayam
Gowthami Grandhalayam or Sri Gowthami Regional Library was started by poet and social reformer Nalam Krishna Rao in 1898 in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, India. History Initially named Sri Veeresalingam library, since it was backed by the nationalist Kandukuri Veeresalingam Pantulu, it was housed in Nalam Choultry in Innispeta with a very small collection. Around the same time Addanki Satyanarayana established the Vasuraya Library. Andhra Desa Grandhalaya Sangham secretary Pathuri Nageswara Rao suggested merger of the two libraries to get regional status. Following the advice of the elite in the city, the two libraries were merged and named as Gowthami Grandhalayam and registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1920. Rajahmundry, officially known as Rajamahendravaram, is a city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and District headquarters of East Godavari district. It is the sixth most populated city in the state. During British rule, the District of Rajahmundry was created in the Madras Presidency in 1823. Telugu University
The Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University (PSTU) is one of the few Indian language universities in India. University It was established as "Telugu University" on 2 December 1985 through an Act of Legislation (Act No. 27 of 1985) by the State Legislature of the-then united Andhra Pradesh with headquarters at Hyderabad and satellite campuses at Srisailam and Rajamahendravaram. The School of Folk and Tribal Lore was established at Warangal during the year 1994.
