Naked Dave
Naked Dave (The Naked Dave Project) refers to a series of paintings created by Laura Molina, inspired by her relationship with illustrator and ''Rocketeer'' creator Dave Stevens (1955-2008). A five-month-long relationship between the artists ended in early December 1978 after she miscarried their child at eleven weeks. Molina started the series in 1993 after an attempted reconciliation initiated by Stevens failed to settle things between them. Stevens protested the use of his likeness, but Molina argued in her website commentary that she was protected from legal ramifications, citing ''Polydoros v. Twentieth Century Fox Film (67 Cal. App.4th 318, 1997)'', in which Michael Polydoros contended that David Mickey Evans, the writer-director of the movie ''The Sandlot'' had violated his privacy by including a character based on him. Laura Molina (artist)
Laura Molina (born December 15, 1957) is an American artist, musician, and actress from Los Angeles, California. Molina is perhaps best known for her '' Naked Dave'' paintings. She is also the creator of ''Cihualyaomiquiz, The Jaguar'', a self-published comic book printed under Molina's own Insurgent Comix imprint. Career Art career Molina's distinct style is very much influenced by art associated with the Chicano Movement of the 1960s, Mexican culture, especially Frida Kahlo, 20th century Mexican Calendar artist, Jesus Helguera and the British Pre-Raphaelites. Oil painting is the process of painting with pigments with a medium of drying oil as the binder. It has been the most common technique for artistic painting on wood panel or canvas for several centuries, spreading from Europe to the rest of the world. National Museum Of Mexican Art
The National Museum of Mexican Art (NMMA), formerly known as the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum, is a museum featuring Mexican, Latino, and Chicano art and culture. It is located in Harrison Park in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The museum was founded in 1982 by Carlos Tortolero and opened on March 27, 1987. The Rocketeer (character)
The Rocketeer is a fictional American comic book character, created by writer/artist Dave Stevens. The Character (arts), character first appeared in 1982 and is an homage to the Saturday matinee serial heroes from the 1930s through the 1950s. The Rocketeer's secret identity is Cliff Secord, a stunt pilot who discovers a mysterious Jet pack, jetpack that allows him to fly. His adventures are set in pre-World War II America, and Stevens gave them a retro, nostalgic feel. Analogues of pinup diva Bettie Page and fictional pulp characters appear prominently in the series. The character first appeared in publications from Pacific Comics, and would be printed by several other independent companies until 1995. Dave Lee Stevens (July 29, 1955 – March 11, 2008) was an American illustrator and comics artist. He was most famous for creating ''The Rocketeer'' comic book and film character, and for his pin-up style "glamour art" illustrations, especially of model Bettie Page.
