Nagnath S. Inamdar
Nagnath S. Inamdar (1923–2002) was an Indian novelist in the Marathi language whose career spanned almost five decades. Career Inamdar was born in a village in Satara district of Maharashtra, India. He rose from humble beginnings to establish himself as one of India's best novelists. He was a prominent figure in Marathi language, Marathi literature. Works Inamdar wrote sixteen historical novels, the most prominent of which are * ''Shahenshah (novel), Shahenshah'' - 1970 * ''Rau (novel), Raau'' - 1972 * ''Jhunja'' * ''Rajeshri'' * ''Shikasta'' * ''Mantravegala'' * ''Jhep'' He also wrote his autobiography spanning three volumes. ''Shahenshah'' () is a 1970 Marathi historical fiction novel by N S Inamdar. The story is a fictional biography of the Mughal emperor Muhi-ud-Din Muhammad, otherwise popularly known as Aurangzeb, hence the title Shahanshah, which is a title given to emperors. Under his reign the Mughal Empire achieved its largest expansion and also saw a rapid downfall, disintegrating shortly after his death. The novel focuses on his 50-year reign and is about an Emperor who is feared by all and is extremely intelligent yet faces a heartbroken and lonely death. ''Rau'' (also referred to as ''Rauu'') is a 1972 Marathi historical fiction novel by N S Inamdar. The story revolves around the fictionalized romance between real-life historical characters of the Maratha General Peshwa Baji Rao I and his second wife Mastani (born of a Hindu father and Muslim mother). The novel revolves around the outrage caused by the relationship among Baji Rao's family members and the orthodox priests. ''Rau'' was adapted into a feature film in 2015 as ''Bajirao Mastani'', it was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and starred Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. Sanjay Leela Bhansali (born 24 February 1963) is an Indian film director, producer, screenwriter, editor and music composer, who works in Hindi cinema. Ahmednagar, officially Ahilyanagar, is a city in, and the headquarters of, the Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra, India. Ahmednagar has several dozen buildings and sites from the Nizam Shahi period.
