Nadiya Kudelia
Nadiya Kudelia ( Ukrainian: Куделя Надія Павлівна; 15 October 1936 – 15 September 2022) was a Ukrainian singer, coloratura soprano, Merited Artist of Ukraine, People's Artist of Ukraine (2021). Biography She received her education at the Kyiv Conservatory in the class of Maria Donets-Tessier. As a student, she won the World Youth Festival in Vienna (1959). In 1964, she became a laureate of the J. Enescu Competition in Romania, and in 1967, she was awarded a diploma at the Young Singers Competition in Bulgaria. In the 1960s and 1980s, she was a soloist at the Kyiv Opera. Her repertoire included about 30 roles, including Traviata from Verdi's opera of the same name, which she sang at the premiere of this opera in 1964. She taught at the Drahomanov National University. A coloratura soprano () is a type of operatic soprano voice that specializes in music that is distinguished by agile run (music), runs, leaps and Trill (music), trills. The term ''coloratura'' refers to the elaborate ornamentation of a melody, which is a typical component of the music written for this voice. People's Artist of Ukraine () is an honorary title awarded by the government of Ukraine. It is the highest title awarded to outstanding performing artists whose merits are exceptional in the sphere of the development of the performing arts, including theatre, music, dance, circus, and cinema. For visual arts, there is a separate title. History Established in 1922 during Soviet times, it was originally called ''People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR'' (Народний артист УРСР). The Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music (), formerly Kyiv Conservatory, is a national music tertiary academy in Kyiv, Ukraine. Its courses include postgraduate education. History The Kyiv Conservatory was founded on 3 November 1913 at the Kyiv campus of the Music College of the Russian Musical Society. The organization of the conservatory was spearheaded by Sergei Rachmaninoff and Alexander Glazunov. The first directors were V. Pukhalsky (1913) and Reinhold Glière (1914–1920). In 1925, the junior classes were separated from the conservatory to form a Music College, while the senior classes were merged into the formerly private Music and Drama Institute of Mykola Lysenko (today the Kyiv National I. The Kyiv Opera group in Ukraine was formally established in the summer of 1867, and is the third oldest opera in Ukraine, after Odesa Opera and Lviv Opera.
