Nadezhda De Torby
Nadejda Mikhailovna Mountbatten, Marchioness of Milford Haven (née Countess Nadejda Mikhailovna de Torby, until 1917 Princess George of Battenberg; 28 March 1896 – 22 January 1963), was a member of the Russian imperial family who married a German prince but became a British subject and aristocrat. She was a close relative of the British royal family. She was born and died in Cannes, on the French Riviera. Life Countess Nadejda de Torby was the second daughter of Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich of Russia and his morganatic wife Countess Sophie of Merenberg. Prince Nikolaus Wilhelm Of Nassau
Prince Nikolaus Wilhelm of Nassau (20 September 1832 – 17 September 1905) was a German prince, military officer and parliamentarian. He was the youngest son of William, Duke of Nassau, and the only son by his second wife Princess Pauline of Württemberg. The scion of a minor German princely family, Prince Nikolaus initially pursued a military career which notably led him to fight France during the Italian War of 1859. In 1862, he was briefly considered a candidate for the vacant Greek throne by the British government. Following the annexation of the Duchy of Nassau by the Kingdom of Prussia as a consequence of the Austro-Prussian War in 1866, he entered into Prussian military service the following year. A Ball (dance event), ball was held at Kenwood House, London, by Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich of Russia on 11 June 1914. The ball was held in honour of Michael's daughters Anastasia de Torby, Anastasia and Nadejda Mountbatten, Marchioness of Milford Haven, Nadejda and marked the Debutante, coming-out of the latter, who was aged 18. It was attended by a large number of British and foreign nobility, including King George V and Mary of Teck, Queen Mary, and was one of the last big social events before the start of the First World War.
