Nada Bakri
Nada Bakri is a Lebanese American journalist who covered the Middle East for over a decade, covering events including the 2006 July War and the Arab Spring. She was also a contributor to the 2019 anthology ''Our Women on the Ground: Essays by Arab Women Reporting from the Middle East'' . Life Bakri holds a Master of Science degree from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University. She has reported on the Middle East for various publications for more than a decade, including The Washington Post, The New York Times, and The Daily Star, while based in Beirut and Baghdad. Bakri currently resides in Boston, Massachusetts. She was married to journalist Anthony Shadid Anthony Shadid (September 26, 1968 – February 16, 2012) was a foreign correspondent for ''The New York Times'' based in Baghdad and Beirut who won the Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting twice, in 2004 and 2010. Middle East
The Middle East (term originally coined in English language) is a geopolitical region encompassing the Arabian Peninsula, the Levant, Turkey, Egypt, Iran, and Iraq. The term came into widespread usage by the United Kingdom and western European nations in the early 20th century as a replacement of the term Near East (both were in contrast to the Far East). The term "Middle East" has led to some confusion over its changing definitions. Since the late 20th century, it has been criticized as being too Eurocentrism, Eurocentric. The region includes the vast majority of the territories included in the closely associated definition of West Asia, but without the South Caucasus. It also includes all of Egypt (not just the Sinai Peninsula, Sinai) and all of Turkey (including East Thrace). Most Middle Eastern countries (13 out of 18) are part of the Arab world. 2006 July War
The 2006 Lebanon War was a 34-day armed conflict in Lebanon, fought between Hezbollah and Israel. The war started on 12 July 2006, and continued until a United Nations-brokered ceasefire went into effect in the morning on 14 August 2006, though it formally ended on 8 September 2006 when Israel lifted its naval blockade of Lebanon. It marked the Israeli–Lebanese conflict, third Israeli invasion into Lebanon since 1978. After Israeli occupation of Southern Lebanon, Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon in 2000, Hezbollah aimed for the release of Lebanese citizens held in Israeli prisons.
