Hastings Kamuzu Banda
Hastings Kamuzu Banda ( – 25 November 1997) was a Malawian politician and statesman who served as the leader of Malawi from 1964 to 1994. He served as Prime Minister of Malawi, Prime Minister from independence in 1964 to 1966, when Malawi was a Dominion/Commonwealth realm. In 1966, the country became a republic and he became the first President of Malawi, president as a result, ruling until his defeat in 1994. After receiving much of his education in ethnography, linguistics, history, and medicine overseas, Banda returned to Nyasaland to speak against colonialism and advocate independence from the United Kingdom. He was formally appointed Prime Minister of Nyasaland, and led the country to independence in 1964. Two years later, he proclaimed Malawi a republic with himself as the first president. Nacala-a-Velha
Nacala-a-Velha, is a town on the northern coast of Mozambique. It is located on the western shore of inner Fernao Veloso Bay, opposite the city of Nacala. Nacala-a-Velha is the site of a large marine coal terminal which opened in January 2016. The terminal is operated by the Port of Nacala, but physically separate from the commercial port across the bay. The Nacala railway links the coal terminal to the coalfields at Moatize in Tete Province. Coal is loaded from trains onto ships at Nacala-a-Velha for export to other countries. Nkaya
Nkaya, also known as Nacaia, is a town in Malawi, located in the Balaka District, district of Balaka and in the Southern Region, Malawi, Southern Region of the country. In 2022 the local Rivi Rivi River which feeds the Shire River diverted by about 500 metres as the result of rainfall and Tropical Storm Ana (2022), Tropical Storm Ana. A village called Chipanga and a railway line was under threat. The river was preventing people from using the existing road. Liwonde, or Livonde, is a town located in Machinga District, in the Southern Region of Malawi. Geography Located in Machinga District in the Southern Region of Malawi, Liwonde is located in the Shire River valley. Its main landmark is the road that connects Zomba to Lilongwe, making the town an important crossroads between Balaka, Machinga, Mangochi and Zomba. Another important Liwonde landmark is the Liwonde National Park nature conservation area.
