Naanal (film)
''Naanal'' ( cane) is a 1965 Indian Tamil language, Tamil-language crime comedy film, written and directed by K. Balachander. It is based on his play of the same name. The film stars R. Muthuraman, Major Sundarrajan, Srikanth (actor, born 1940), Srikanth, Sowcar Janaki, K. R. Vijaya and Nagesh. It was released on 24 December 1965 and failed at the box office. Plot Four jailbirds escape from prison to take revenge on the judge who sentenced them. They take over his house, and the film builds around the judge and his family escaping from them. Cast Production ''Naanal'' was a play written by K. Balachander and inspired by the film ''The Desperate Hours (1955 film), The Desperate Hours'' (1955). After the release of ''Neerkumizhi'', Balachander decided to adapt ''The Desperate Hours'' as the story for his next play after being impressed by the plot. Major Sundarrajan
Srinivasan Sundarrajan (17 March 1935 – 28 February 2003), popularly known as Major Sundarrajan, was an Indian actor and film director who performed predominantly in Tamil language films and plays. He was well known for his sophisticated and urbane way of delivering dialogues, often mixing English and Tamil sentences. Early life Sundarrajan was born on 17 March 1935 in a middle-class family in Periyakulam, Madurai. His father Srinivasa Iyengar was a stage actor. Sundarrajan's first stint with acting came when he was in the sixth grade; at this point he was cast in a Hindi play of his school. He went on to act in numerous school and college plays. After graduating with a degree in science, Sundarrajan went to Madras (now Chennai), where his uncle Veeraraghavan was an amateur actor in the Triplicane Fine Arts theatre troupe. Suratha
Suratha () (23 November 1921 – 20 June 2006) was a Tamil poet, recognized for his poetic use of similes. He was called "Uvamai Kavignar" ("poet of comparisons"). Early life Suratha was born in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu as T. Rajagopal on 23 November 1921. He derived his pen name from Subburathnadasan ( Bharathidasan, a poet of yesteryear). Literary works ''Saavin Mutham'' (meaning "kiss of death") and ''Thenmazhai'' (meaning "rain of honey") were among his notable works. He also ran a weekly Kaavyam, entirely dedicated to poetry. He was also a lyricist and a dialogue writer for more than 100 Tamil films and songs such as . Another of his popular lyric was the philosophical Aadi adangum vaazhkaiyada, which was featured in the Tamil movie 'Neer Kumizhi' (Water bubble), released in 1965. Crazy Mohan
Mohan Rangachari (16 October 1952 – 10 June 2019) known professionally as Crazy Mohan, was an Indian actor, comedian, screenwriter and playwright. An engineer by profession, Mohan started writing plays and established his own drama troupe called "Crazy Creations" in 1979. In addition to dramas and tele-serials, Mohan worked as a dialogue writer on a number of comedy films. Mohan had written over 30 plays, worked on over 40 films, having cameo roles in each film, and written 100 short stories. The Tamil Nadu state government in the year 2004, awarded him the Kalaimamani title for excellence in the field of arts and literature. ''The Indian Express'' is an English-language Indian daily newspaper founded in 1932 by P. Varadarajulu Naidu. It is headquartered in Noida, owned by the ''Indian Express Group''. It was later taken over by Ramnath Goenka. In 1999, eight years after Goenka's death in 1991, the group was split between the family members.
