New Zealand Media and Entertainment (abbreviated NZME) is a New Zealand newspaper, radio and digital media business. It was launched in 2014 as the merger of APN New Zealand (a division of APN News & Media), the Radio Network (formerly part of the Australian Radio Network) and GrabOne, one of New Zealand's biggest ecommerce websites. NZME brands include flagship national newspaper ''The New Zealand Herald'', and regional newspapers ''Bay of Plenty Times'', ''Rotorua Daily Post'', ''Hawke's Bay Today'', ''Northern Advocate'' and ''Gisborne Herald''. Gold (New Zealand Radio Network)
GOLD is a New Zealand radio station playing classic hits and classic rock of the late 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s targeting an audience of listeners above 45 years of age. GOLD broadcasts as a network on AM and FM frequencies across New Zealand and is owned and operated by New Zealand Media and Entertainment (NZME). Its head office and studios are in central Auckland, alongside NZME's seven other radio networks. History GOLD went to air on 1 July 2020, taking over the FM frequencies held by Mix and the AM and low power FM frequencies previously used to broadcast Radio Sport. GOLD is a pure music format, while the AM/LPFM version carries a hybrid talk/music format aimed at the rural market. Steven Leonard Joyce (born 7 April 1963) is a New Zealand former politician, who entered the New Zealand House of Representatives in 2008 as a member of the New Zealand National Party. As a broadcasting entrepreneur with RadioWorks, he was a millionaire before he entered politics. In 2008 he became Ministry of Transport (New Zealand), Minister of Transport and Minister for Communications and Information Technology. He later became Minister of Science and Innovation, and then served as Minister of Finance (New Zealand), Minister of Finance and Minister for Infrastructure (New Zealand), Minister for Infrastructure. On 6 March 2018, he announced his resignation from politics, after losing his bid for the leadership of the party. Radio Hauraki
Radio Hauraki is a New Zealand rock music station that started in 1966. It was the first private commercial radio station of the modern broadcasting era in New Zealand and operated illegally until 1970 to break the monopoly held by the state-owned New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation. From its founding until 2012 Hauraki played a mix of classic and mainstream rock music. In 2013, it changed its music content, playing modern rock and alternative rock from the last 25–30 years. As of 2019 more classic rock and progressive rock is being increasingly played. ''The Gisborne Herald'' is the daily evening newspaper for Gisborne and environs. It was one of only four independently owned daily newspapers in New Zealand but was bought by NZME in 2024. History Established in 1874 as the ''Poverty Bay Herald'' it was published biweekly in the morning by Carlile and Co. In 1877 it was taken over by Poverty Bay Printing and Publishing Co., who turned it into an evening paper. Whanganui Chronicle
''The Whanganui Chronicle'' is New Zealand's oldest newspaper. Based in Whanganui, it celebrated 160 years of publishing in September 2016. It is the main daily paper for the Whanganui, Ruapehu and Rangitīkei regions, including the towns of Patea, Waverley, Whanganui, Bulls, Marton, Raetihi, Ohakune and National Park. History Local resident Henry Stokes first proposed the paper for Petre, as the town was then called, but initial publication was held back by lack of equipment. As no printing press was available, Stokes approached the technical master at Wanganui Collegiate School, Rev. Charles Nicholls, and together they constructed a maire wood and iron makeshift printing press, on which, with the help of the staff and pupils of the school, the first edition of the ''Wanganui Chronicle'' (as it was then spelled) was printed on 18 September 1856. ''The Northern Advocate'' is the regional daily paper for the city of Whangārei and the Northland Region in New Zealand. History ''The Whangarei Comet and Northern Advertiser'' was founded in 1875 as a weekly paper by George Alderton and, despite a small population which led to a prediction the paper "would go up like a comet, and come down like a stick", the paper flourished and within two years had expanded to 12 pages and become the ''Northern Advocate and General Advertiser'', with a small section printed in Māori. The paper began daily publication in 1902. On Monday, 23 April 2012, the weekday ''Northern Advocate'' changed to tabloid format.
