NYC Busker Ball
NYC Busker Ball is an event conceived and organized by busker, musician and artist Theo Eastwind, an active subway performer. His first NYC Busker Ball, which took place on January 23, 2013, was staged at a nightclub called Spike Hill in Brooklyn, NY, and was organized as a charity event to raise money to be donated to the American Red Cross to assist in their effort to aid those suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Eastwind issued a call to action to other street performers he knew at the time to join him and be part of the benefit that night. This first NYC Busker Ball was very well attended by members of the local community. He and the others entertained those in attendance for over five hours with their music. The proceeds from their performances were then donated as planned to the relief effort. Hurricane Sandy (unofficially referred to as ''Superstorm Sandy'') was an extremely destructive and strong Atlantic hurricane, as well as the largest Atlantic hurricane on record as measured by diameter, with tropical-storm-force winds spanning . Natalia 'Saw Lady' Paruz is a New York City-based musical saw player, bell ringer and busker. She is the founder and director of the annual Musical Saw Festival in New York City. She also organized the musical saw festival in Israel. She is a columnist of the 'Saw Player News' and a judge at international musical saw competitions. Paruz has played the musical saw on many film soundtracks and can be seen as well as heard in the movie '' Dummy'' starring Adrien Brody. Cathy Grier
Cathy Grier is an American musician. Biography Early life Cathy Grier was born in Ogdensburg, New York, where her engineer father helped build the St. Lawrence Bridge. Her family then moved to Connecticut, and her career as a guitar soloist started in 1977 as a senior at Coginchaug High School. In 1979, while working on a music degree at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, she formed her own band. A year later, she teamed up with singer-songwriter Lenore Troia after meeting in Paul Leka’s Connecticut Recording Studio, where Cathy was worked to repay the recording of her first demo learning audio engineering in the process. In 1980, Grier enrolled in the Berklee College Summer Program and then began to tour with Troia that fall.
