NUS Services Ltd
NUS Services Ltd (NUSSL) is a company which provides services to student unions in the United Kingdom. NUSSL is owned by over 180 Students' Unions and the National Union of Students (NUS). It has over 220 Students' Unions as purchasing members. The company is run on a democratic basis with its strategy led by its shareholders and its work is directed by a Board and Committees composed of volunteers from its shareholder unions. Its function is to support unions licensed and retail trade operations as well as providing support services like consultancy and accreditation schemes. NUSSL is based in Macclesfield. History NUS Services started as a purchasing consortium for students' unions in the 1970s. Since then it has expanded and now supports all of students' unions commercial activity. The National Union of Students (NUS) is a confederation of Students' union, student unions across the United Kingdom. Approximately 600 student unions are affiliated, accounting for more than 95% of all higher and further education unions in the UK. The Union of Kingston Students (UKS) is a students' union that represents and provides services to the near 15 000 students of Kingston University a former polytechnic and now large comprehensive university based in South West London. It is a registered charity and employs around 20 full-time staff and 10 student staff, and has an annual turnover of nearly £2.5m. History The Students' Union was first founded in 1947 by soldiers returning from fighting in the Second World War attending the then Kingston Technical Institute. Initially there was little interest in the activities of the Students' Union however by 1955 it had become more active with the Freshers Ball attracting 350 guests. Newcastle University Students' Union
Newcastle University Students' Union (NUSU) is the students' union of Newcastle University in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It is an organisation with the intention of representing and providing services and welfare for the students of University of Newcastle upon Tyne. It was originally set up as the Union Society and changed to its present name in 2011. In 2022, it voted to rejoin the National Union of Students (NUS). The Students' Union is run by seven sabbatical officers and nine voluntary unpaid liberation and chair positions.
