NSW Kiama
NSW Kiama was a steam locomotive seeing service in New South Wales, Australia. History Davenport 1596 was ordered for construction operations as PWD No. 65 on Cordeaux Dam light railway between the Nepean Gorge near Douglas Park and the Dam along Mount Keira Road between 1917 and 1926. The locomotive was purchased by Quarries Ltd. during 1936 and transferred to Kiama Blue Metal tramway. Demise and Preservation The Kiama tramway closed in March 1941. The locomotive was utilised by several heritage organisations and finally preserved by Illawarra Light Railway Museum in 1977. NSW Kiama Fowler
NSW Kiama Fowler is a steam locomotive that was in service in New South Wales, Australia. It is sometimes also called Wollondilly. History Kiama Fowler was built by the John Fowler plant at Leeds in England in 1923, it was used at the Kiama Quarries for blue metal haulage at the town of Kiama until 1941 when the quarry was shut down. ("Blue metal" is another name for basalt.) Davenport Locomotive Works
The Davenport Locomotive Works, of Davenport, Iowa, United States, USA, was formed as the W W Whitehead Company in 1901. In 1902, the company commenced building light locomotives. The Company was renamed the Davenport Locomotive Works in 1904. In late 1930, Davenport was licensed to assemble and market R. G. LeTourneau, R G LeTourneau Inc products under the Davenport-LeTourneau brand. The agreement is believed to have ended in 1935 when LeTourneau moved to Peoria, Illinois. Davenport also sold Davenport-Winchell three-wheel roller conversions of industrial wheel tractors, Davenport-Frink snow plows, which were built in license from Frink Sno-Plows Inc, and Reynolds patented Mov-Mor rotary scrapers. In 1933, the company was again restructured and renamed the Davenport-Besler Corporation, which continued in business until 1956. Cordeaux Dam
The Cordeaux Dam is a heritage-listed dam in Cordeaux, New South Wales, Australia. It provides water to the Macarthur and Illawarra regions, the Wollondilly Shire, and metropolitan Sydney. It is one of four dams and weirs in the catchment of the Upper Nepean Scheme. Completed in 1926 under the supervision of Ernest Macartney de Burgh, the dam is owned by Water NSW, an agency of the Government of New South Wales. It was listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 18 November 1999. Structural details The heritage-listed arch dam across the Cordeaux River with an unlined side spillway on the left abutment is high, long and creates a reservoir which holds . Nepean Gorge
The Nepean Gorge is a gorge on the Nepean River west of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The gorge is located south of the western suburb of Penrith and is administered and protected by the NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service. It is carved through the sandstone typical of the region, Hawkesbury sandstone. There is some speculation as to why it runs through the eastern edge of the Blue Mountains rather than around it. The gorge is popular for water recreation by small watercraft all year. Lookouts above the gorge are accessible by dirt roads on both banks and the area is steeped with Aboriginal history. Evidence of prehistoric volcanic activity in the area also exists in the soil and stone of nearby hills. Douglas Park, New South Wales
Douglas Park is a town of the Macarthur Region in New South Wales, Australia in Wollondilly Shire. It is near the Hume Highway, the F5 Freeway and on the Main Southern railway line.
