NSB Class 69
NSB Class 69 () is an electric multiple unit used by Norwegian State Railways for a variety of commuter trains on the Rail transport in Norway, Norwegian railway system, as well as a few medium distance and branch line trains. It is the most common type of trainset in Norway, although the newer NSB Class 72 has also been introduced. All the trains were built by Strømmens Værksted, Strømmen. History During the 1960s NSB realized that they would need a new generation of electric multiple units for local traffic. Both the NSB Class 65, Class 65, NSB Class 67, 67 and NSB Class 68, 68 had for thirty years been built with slight modifications, and NSB needed both new and more modern trains for their operations. Holmlia Station
Holmlia () is a railway station on the Østfold Line. It is located in the Holmlia neighborhood in the Søndre Nordstrand borough of Oslo, Norway. Situated from Oslo Central Station (Oslo S), it features an island platform with two access superstructures. Holmlia is served by the L2, L2x and L21 lines of the Oslo Commuter Rail, providing three to five services per hour. The station opened in 1932. Development of the area started in the 1970s, resulting in an all-new station opening in 1982. Arne Henriksen designed its award-winning superstructure. Holmlia has since become among the country's busiest commuter stations, resulting in a northern accessway being built in 2012. SL X1
X1 was a series of two-car electric multiple units (twin units) owned by Greater Stockholm Transport (SL) on the Stockholm commuter rail. The X1 was operated in sets of up to five units, making ten-car trains, each unit consisting of one motor car and one unpowered car. 104 units were built by ASEA in 1967–75 and were replaced by the new X60. The X1 also served as the foundation for the later X10–X14 series trains, built in the 1980s and 1990s. History The X1 was based on the SJ X6 taken into service in the 1960s, that had replaced locomotive-pulled trains. Stavanger Station
Stavanger Station () is a railway station in Stavanger municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the centre of the Stavanger (city), city of Stavanger and it is the terminus of the Sørlandet Line. The station is served by regional trains to Kristiansand and the Jæren Commuter Rail. History The station was opened in 1872 as part of Jæren Line from Stavanger to Egersund. In 1944 it became part of the Sørlandet Line when it was concluded between Egersund and Kristiansand. Sørlandet Line
The Sørlandet Line () is a railway line between Drammen (though this is connected to Oslo by means of the Drammen Line) via Kristiansand to Stavanger. The line is long between Oslo and Stavanger. History The railway was constructed in several phases, the first section being opened in 1871 and the last not opened until 1944. While there was a continual construction work from Oslo westward as far as Moi, the Jæren Line from Egersund to Stavanger in Western Norway was opened in 1878. Up to 1913 the name used on plans and for the completed sections was the Vestlandet Line (''The West Country Line''). The Sørlandet Line was completed by the German occupation force during World War II. It was opened for regular traffic on 1 May 1944. Flåm Line
The Flåm Line () is a long railway line between Myrdal and Flåm in Aurland Municipality, in Vestland county, Norway. A branch line of the Bergen Line, it runs through the valley of Flåmsdalen and connects the mainline with Sognefjord. The line's elevation difference is ; it has ten stations, twenty tunnels and one bridge. The Grade (slope), maximum gradient is 5.5 percent (1:18). A twin unit, twinset, or double unit is a set of two railroad cars or locomotives which are permanently coupled and treated as if they were a single unit. A twinset of cars or coaches can also be called a twin car. In US passenger railroad parlance, twin units are also known as married pairs. On passenger railroads, light rail, and monorail services, married pairs may have machinery necessary for full operation of the cars split between them. Items that are typically shared include transformers, motor controllers, dynamic braking grids, cabs, current collectors, batteries, and air compressors. This provides significant savings in both cost of equipment and weight, which increases performance and decreases energy consumption.
