NCAA Season 97 Men's Basketball Tournament
The NCAA Season 97 men's basketball tournament was the basketball tournaments of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (Philippines) for its 2021–22 season. This was the first tournament since the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines, and since 2019 after the planned 96th season was cancelled because of the pandemic. Only the men's tournament for college students was held; the juniors' tournament for senior high school students last held in 2019 was canceled. The Letran Knights won all games to become champions undefeated, defeating the Mapua Cardinals in the finals. Rhenz Abando was named season MVP. Tournament format The season will be held with five gamedays a week calendar, with two games being played in each gameday. The Letran Knights basketball is the collegiate men’s basketball program of the Colegio de San Juan de Letran. The Knights have won 20 championships since joining the National Collegiate Athletic Association (Philippines), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). It is the second winningest team in the NCAA, just behind the San Beda Red Lions basketball, San Beda Red Lions. Randy Alcantara (January 15, 1972) is a former collegiate basketball player who currently serves as the head coach of Mapúa Cardinals basketball, Mapua Cardinals and San Juan Knights. Career Playing career Alcantara played under Joel Banal in NCAA Season 67 basketball tournaments, 1991 NCAA finals. The Mapúa Cardinals basketball program represents Mapúa University (MU) in men's basketball as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (Philippines) (NCAA). The Mapúa Cardinals are one of the three NCAA seniors' basketball teams in Intramuros. History Originally as the Mapúa Institute of Technology (MIT), the Cardinals are named after the Major League Baseball team St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals have won six NCAA titles, the first in 1949, and the latest in 2024. Atoy Co won the NCAA MVP award in 1971, and would later coach the team in the 21st century. The Lyceum Pirates basketball program represents Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) in men's basketball as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (Philippines) (NCAA). Jose Luis "Louie" Gonzalez (sometimes misspelled as Louie Gonzales) is a former collegiate basketball player who is the current head coach for the Ilagan Isabela Cowboys of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).
