NBL (Australia) Most Valuable Player
The National Basketball League Most Valuable Player Award (MVP) is an annual National Basketball League (NBL) award given since the league's inaugural season to the best performing player of the regular season. As of the 2023–24 season, coaches and captains from each team, and a panel of experts, vote for the MVP. The votes are collated and the individual with the most votes at the end of the regular season is awarded the Most Valuable Player. The winner receives the Andrew Gaze Trophy, which is named in honour of Australian basketball legend Andrew Gaze, a seven-time winner of the NBL MVP award. The National Basketball League (NBL) is a men's Professional sports#Basketball, professional basketball list of basketball leagues, league in Australasia, currently composed of ten teams: nine in Australia and one in New Zealand. It is the premier professional men's basketball league in Australia and New Zealand. Ray Borner
Ray Borner OAM (born 27 May 1962) is an Australian former basketball player who competed in the National Basketball League. He was named as the NBL's Most Valuable Player for the 1985 season, becoming the first Australian born player to win the award. College After making his NBL debut for the Coburg Giants in 1980 at the age of 18, Borner spent the 1981–1982 off-season attending Louisiana State University where he played college basketball for the LSU Tigers. Robert Rose (basketball)
Robert Paul Rose (born 27 December 1964) is an American-Australian retired professional basketball player. He played the majority of his career in the Australian National Basketball League (NBL), where he won a championship with the South East Melbourne Magic in 1992 and was a two-time NBL Most Valuable Player in 1993 and 2001. Rose was nicknamed "Australia's Michael Jordan" due to his clutch shooting and defensive abilities. Early life Rose was born in Rochester, New York, as the youngest of nine children. Derek Rucker
Derek Alan Rucker (born October 2, 1966) is an American-Australian former professional basketball player who starred in the Australian National Basketball League for 15 seasons. Playing career Prior to the commencement of his professional career, Rucker attended and graduated from the exclusive University School in Hunting Valley, Ohio. He accepted a basketball scholarship to attend Davidson College and quickly established himself as a player and leader by starting from his freshman year onwards. Rucker led the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament his sophomore season and finished at Davidson as the 3rd (now 4th) all-time leading scorer and all-time assists (now 5th) and steals leader (currently 1st). Scott Fisher (born July 20, 1963) is an American-Australian former professional basketball player and coach, most known for his time spent with the Perth Wildcats of the National Basketball League (Australia), National Basketball League (NBL) in both roles. As a player, he won the NBL (Australia) Most Valuable Player, NBL MVP in 1989 and 1992 while playing for the North Melbourne Giants. Joe Hurst (born February 4, 1964) is an American former professional basketball player. He is a native of East St. Louis, Illinois. College career Between 1982 and 1986, Hurst played college basketball at Northwest Missouri State University for the Bearcats. He was first-team All- MIAA in 1984 and 1985. He suffered an ankle injury in his final year. He left Northwest in the top five in both career scoring (1,580 points) and rebounding (777). He also set the all-time mark for blocked shots with 153.
