NASCAR Legends
''NASCAR Legends'' is a NASCAR racing simulator developed by Papyrus Design Group for Windows-based personal computers and released by Sierra On-Line in late 1999. It was based on the 1970 NASCAR Grand National Series (the precursor to the NASCAR Cup Series), and featured drivers, cars, and venues from that year. The game used the same game engine as '' NASCAR Racing 3''. However, the game play reflects the performance of the 1970 race cars. Players can choose to drive and also customize the four different cars available, with the game choosing the aero version of the car for speedways and road courses, using the base car for the short tracks. Papyrus Design Group
Papyrus Design Group, Inc. was a computer game developer founded in 1987 by David Kaemmer and CEO Omar Khudari. Based in Watertown, Massachusetts, Watertown, Massachusetts, it is best known for its series of realistic sim racing games based on the NASCAR and IndyCar leagues, as well as the unique ''Grand Prix Legends''. Papyrus was acquired by Sierra On-Line in late 1995 and Omar Khudari left Papyrus soon after that. Dave Kaemmer left Papyrus in late 2002, just before the release of ''NASCAR Racing 2003 Season'' (''NR2003''). In the 2001 Pop Secret Microwave Popcorn 400, 2001 Pop Secret 400 at Rockingham Speedway, North Carolina Speedway, Papyrus Design Group sponsored John Andretti’s car. Bowman Gray Stadium
Bowman Gray Stadium is a multi-use sports facility in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The complex consists of a paved oval Oval track racing#Short track, short track and a gridiron football field. The complex has held various major events since its opening in 1938, including NASCAR-sanctioned events and college football games for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons football, Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the Winston-Salem State Rams. Bowman Gray Stadium is owned by the city of Winston-Salem and operated by both NASCAR and Winston-Salem State University for events. Sim racing is the collective term for racing games that attempt to accurately simulate auto racing, complete with real-world variables such as fuel usage, damage, tire wear and grip, and suspension settings. To be competitive in sim racing, a driver must understand all aspects of automobile handling, car handling that make real-world racing so difficult, such as threshold braking, how to maintain control of a car as the tires lose traction, and how properly to enter and exit a turn without sacrificing speed. NASCAR, the most popular motorsport in the United States, has worked with video game developers to design several video games. In 2003, EA Sports received an exclusive console license to produce NASCAR games, eliminating Papyrus and Hasbro Interactive as competitors. In May 2009, iRacing.com received a license to run NASCAR-sanctioned online racing starting in 2010. Riverside Raceway
Riverside International Raceway (sometimes known as Riverside, RIR, or Riverside Raceway) was a motorsports race track and Road racing, road course established in the Edgemont area of Riverside County, California, just east of the city limits of Riverside, California, Riverside and east of Los Angeles, in 1957. In 1984, the raceway became part of the newly incorporated city of Moreno Valley, California, Moreno Valley. Riverside was noted for its hot, dusty environment, which was a dangerous challenge for drivers. It was also considered one of the finest tracks in the United States. North Wilkesboro Speedway
North Wilkesboro Speedway is a paved oval Oval track racing#Short track, short track in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. The track has hosted a variety of racing events since its inaugural season of racing in 1947; primarily races sanctioned by NASCAR. The facility has a capacity of 25,000 as of 2023. North Wilkesboro Speedway is currently owned by Speedway Motorsports, Speedway Motorsports, LLC (SMI) and led by track director of operations Ronald Queen. In the mid-1940s, local Carolinian Enoch Staley built a track near the Brushy Mountains (North Carolina), Brushy Mountains with help from Lawson Curry, John Mastin, and the Combs family.
