NASA TV (originally NASA Select) was the television service of the NASA, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). It was broadcast by satellite television, satellite with a simulcast over the Internet. Local cable television providers across the United States and amateur television repeaters carried NASA TV at their own discretion, as NASA-created content is considered a work of the U.S. government and is within the public domain. NASA TV was also available via various cable, satellite, and over-the-top media services worldwide. The network was formally created in the early 1980s to provide NASA managers and engineers with real-time video of missions. NASA Plus, stylized as NASA+, is an on-demand streaming service by NASA. It launched on November 8, 2023. It runs educational content, and is available on iOS, Android, web browsers on desktop computers, as well as media players such as Roku, Apple TV, and Fire TV. Access is given to NASA+ via the NASA App. History NASA+ was announced to the public in July 2023, and launched on November 8. The digital television transition in the United States was the switchover from Analog TV, analog to exclusively Digital television, digital broadcasting of terrestrial television programming. It was originally set for December 31, 2006, but was delayed several times due to multiple government acts being enforced on broadcasting companies. Full-power analog broadcasting ceased in most of the country on June 12, 2009, however various aspects of analog television were continued up until 2022.
