N. Ganesan
Nadesan Ganesan, PBM (31 October 1932 – 1 July 2015) was a chairman of the Football Association of Singapore. He served as FAS vice-chairman for two years before he was appointed chairman on 31 March 1976, and was a vice-president of the Asian Football Confederation. He stepped down as FAS chairman in 1982. He was a criminal lawyer by trade. Early life Ganesan was born in Tank Road, Singapore to Tamil parents from Madurai, the youngest of five children. Abandoned by their father, the children were brought up by their mother. After the war, he studied at Victoria School and later at Anglo-Chinese School. He later did his bar exams at Inner Temple, London and received his LLB at the University of London. His mother died whilst he was taking his final exams in London. Pingat Bakti Masyarakat
The ''Pingat Bakti Masyarakat'' (English: Public Service Medal) is a Singaporean orders and decorations, Singaporean national honour. It was instituted in 1973. The medal may be awarded to any person who has rendered commendable public service in Singapore or for their achievement in the field of arts and letters, sports, the sciences, business, the professions and the labour movement. Recipients are entitled to use the post-nominal letters PBM. Description * The medal, in silver, is in the form of a stylised rosette (design), rosette of undulating folds having, on the obverse side, a disc with a bar to each side upon which a circular shield bearing a crescent and 5 stars is embossed. Choo Seng Quee
Joseph Choo Seng Quee (; 1 December 1914 – 30 June 1983), popularly known as Uncle Choo, was a Singaporean footballer and football coach. He was coach of the Indonesia, Malaya/Malaysia and Singapore national teams. He is widely recognised as one of Singapore's best football coaches. Choo began his playing career playing as a right full-back with Singapore Chinese Football Association in the SAFA leagues in 1933. His performances led to a call-up to the Singapore FA team in the Malaya Cup competition. He was converted to a centre-half as the Lions won the Malaya Cup in 1937 and 1939. During World War II, he wrote propaganda for the British in Macau. In 1939, he helped to found the Chinese Athletic Association where he took on the role of player-coach. The Cultural Medallion () is a cultural award in Singapore conferred to those who have achieved artistic excellence in dance, theatre, Literature of Singapore, literature, Music of Singapore, music, photography, art and Cinema of Singapore, film. It is widely recognized as Singapore's pinnacle arts award. History The award was instituted in March 1979 by Minister for Culture Ong Teng Cheong and administered by the National Arts Council Singapore, National Arts Council. Madhavi Krishnan (dancer)
Madhavi Krishnan (born 1941) is a Singaporean dancer and actress. She was both a founding member and the principal dancer of the National Dance Theatre Company. She was awarded the Cultural Medallion in 1979 and was inducted into the Indian Hall of Fame Singapore in 2022. Career Krishnan began winning prizes at dance competitions at the age of five. At the age of 14, she travelled to Chennai, India to learn the Kathakali dance under dancer Gopinath Thangamani, and the Bharatanatyam dance under dance instructor T.V. Soundarajan. She toured India and Southeast Asia with her roommate Ganga. While performing in Chennai, she was spotted by actor and comedian T. S. Durairaj, and appeared in his 1963 drama film '' Aayiram Kalathu Payir''. She then went on to appear in over 30 films. Most of the films she appeared in were in Tamil, but some were either in Telugu or Malayalam.
