Mahé, India
Mahé, also known as Mayyazhi, is a small town in the Mahé district of the Puducherry Union Territory. It is situated at the mouth of the Mahé River and is surrounded by the State of Kerala. The Kannur District surrounds Mahé on three sides and Kozhikode District from one side. Formerly part of French India, Mahé now forms a municipality in Mahé district, one of the four districts of the Union Territory of Puducherry. Mahé has one representative in the Puducherry Legislative Assembly. Etymology The name ''Mahé'' derives from ''Mayyazhi'', the name given to the local river and region in the Malayalam language.The original spelling found on French documents from the early 1720s is ''Mayé'', with ''Mahé'' and ''Mahié'' also found on documents, maps and geographical dictionaries until the early 19th century when the spelling Mahé became the norm. Mahé River
Mahé River (also known as Mayyazhipuzha or the English Channel of India) is a river in South India. It flows through the state of Kerala and the coastal exclave of Mahé in Puducherry. The flow of the river The Mahé River originates in the slopes of the Western Ghats part of the Wayanad district. Initially the river flows through the hilly eastern towns of the Kozhikode district like Vilangad, Vanimel, Jathiyeri, Perod and Nadapuram. Then the river enters into the Malabar plains where it flows through several towns namely, Parakkadavu, Kadavathur, Peringathur, Eramala, Kunnumkara, Kariyad and Peringandi. Vatakara
Vatakara, also spelled Vadakara (formerly Badagara), , french: Bargaret, is a Municipality in the state of Kerala, India. Vatakara is located between Kannur and Kozhikode. The municipality of Vatakara covers an area of and is bordered by Mahé to the north and Payyoli to the south. It is the headquarters of Vatakara taluk, which consists of 22 panchayats. Chirakkal, Kannur
Chirakkal is a census town in Kannur district in the state of Kerala, India. It is a suburb of Kannur city of about 7 km away. History The Kovilakam ("Palace" in the Malayalam language) of Kolathiris, the erstwhile ruling dynasty is situated in Chirakkal. The Kolathiri of Chirakkal was also known as Chirakkal Raja meaning the King of Chirakkal. The southern branch of the same family ruled over Venad and is today known as the Travancore Royal Family. Kolathiris are the successors of Mooshiks Kings who ruled northern Kerala in the first century AD. Tulunad or Tulu Nadu, also called Bermere sristi or Parashurama Srishti, is a region and a proposed state on the southwestern coast of India. Puducherry Legislative Assembly
The Puducherry Legislative Assembly is the unicameral legislature of the Indian union territory (UT) of Puducherry, which comprises four districts: Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahé and Yanam. Out of eight union territories of India, only three have legislatures and they are Delhi, Puducherry and Jammu and Kashmir. After delimitation shortly after its formation, the Puducherry legislative assembly has 33 seats, of which 5 are reserved for candidates from scheduled castes and 3 members are nominated by the Government of India. 30 out of 33 Members are elected directly by the people on the basis of universal adult franchise and the remaining three are nominated by the central government.
