Münchberg is a small town in Upper Franconia (Bavaria), Germany. It is sometimes referred to as the ''Textile Town of Bavaria''. Its sister city is Jefferson City, Missouri, United States. Geography The town districts History The first settlement of the area around Münchberg probably dates back to the 10th century. The original name probably read 'Monk Mountain', as the first settlers were monks. The name changed itself in the course of time and documents first mentioned Münchberg in around 1224. Between 1938 and 1978, Münchberg was district town of the district of the same name. Mechlenreuth
Mechlenreuth is a village in Upper Franconia in the district of Hof in Bavaria, Germany. In 1978 the village was incorporated into the city Münchberg. It is assumed that Mechlenreuth originally was a resting place of monks or east striving colonizers. The earliest known mention of the village was in 1185. From 1837 to 1978 Mechlenreuth was an independent municipality. Today it is a village of 200 inhabitants and a part of the city Münchberg. The FC Münchberg is a defunct German association football club from the town of Münchberg, Bavaria. The club's most successful era was in the late 1960s when it spent a single season in the tier three Bayernliga. History Formed in 1910, FC Münchberg has been, during most of its history, an undistinguished amateur side in local Bavarian football. The club was promoted to the Landesliga Bayern-Nord in 1965, spending the next three seasons in this league. The club was a strong side in the league during this time, finishing in the top six each year and culminating in a league championship in 1968. The Bayernliga (English: Bavarian league) is the highest amateur football league and the second highest football league (under the Regionalliga Bayern) in the state of Bavaria () and the Bavarian football league system. It is one of fourteen Oberligas in German football, the fifth tier of the German football league system. Until the introduction of the 3. Liga in 2008 it was the fourth tier of the league system, until the introduction of the Regionalligas in 1994 the third tier. FC Eintracht Münchberg
FC Eintracht Münchberg is an association football club based in Münchberg, Germany. As of the 2024-2025 season, the club currently plays in the Bayernliga Nord. A secondary team and a third team also exist, with the second team playing in the Kreisliga (Step 8), and the third team plays in the Klasse-A (Step 10). History The club was founded in 2000 after FC Münchberg merged with SC Eintracht Münchberg. On June 4, 2018, FC Eintracht Münchberg's secondary team got promoted to the Kreisliga. Despite the early end of their 2019-20 season of the Bezirksliga, due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the team were still given promotion to the Landesliga.
