Mónica Regonesi
Mónica Patricia Regonesi Muranda (born April 27, 1961) is long-distance runner from Chile. She competed for her native country at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. There she ended up in 32nd place in the women's marathon. Regonesi set her personal best in the classic distance (2:40.28) in 1988. She also competed in the World Masters Athletics 2007 in Italy where she obtained first place in the marathon and 3rd place in the 10k. Long-distance running, or endurance running, is a form of continuous running over distances of at least . Physiologically, it is largely Aerobic exercise, aerobic in nature and requires stamina as well as mental strength. Within endurance running come two different types of Respiration (physiology), respiration. The more prominent side that runners experience more frequently is aerobic respiration. This occurs when oxygen is present, and the body can utilize oxygen to help generate energy and muscle activity. On the other side, anaerobic respiration occurs when the body is deprived of oxygen, and this is common towards the final stretch of races when there is a drive to speed up to a greater intensity. Overall, both types of respiration are used by endurance runners quite often, but are very different from each other. Athletics At The 1984 Summer Olympics – Women's 3000 Metres
These are the official results of the Women's 3000 metres event at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. The final, held on August 10, 1984, was won by Maricica Puică of Romania. This was the first ever 3000 meters race for women at the Olympics. The race is still remembered because of the fall of world champion Mary Decker after a collision with Zola Budd. The winning margin was 3.51 seconds. This was the only time the women's 3,000 metres was won by more than one second at the Olympics. Mary Decker won the first heat to claim the new Olympic record. Maricica Puică improved upon the record in the third heat. South African teenager Zola Budd had obtained British citizenship controversially fast (through an agreement between her father, Frank Budd, and the London ''Daily Mail'') in order to enter the Olympics.
