Mägdesprung (Harzgerode)
Mägdesprung is a village in the municipality of Harzgerode in the district of Harz. It nestles in the Harz Mountains at a height of 295 m. History There was a mill here below the ''Mägdetrappe'' until the Thirty Years' War. In 1646 an ironworks was built on the initiative of Frederick of Anhalt-Harzgerode that was not very successful to begin with, nevertheless it was considerably expanded in 1769. Until the second half of the 19th century the works proved very profitable in the field of decorative castings. Its furnace was finally closed in 1876. On 7 August 1887, a railway line from Gernrode to Mägdesprung was opened by the Gernrode-Harzgerode Railway Company (GHE), today the Harz Narrow Gauge Railways. On 18 April 1945 the pattern house (''Modellhaus'') of the factory fell victim to the fighting at the end of the Second World War. Bundesstraße 185
The Bundesstraße 185 (abbreviation: B 185) is a German federal road or ''Bundesstraße'' in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. It runs from east to west connecting the town of Dessau-Roßlau with the Harz mountain region. Between Kleinpaschleben and Dessau-Roßlau the B 185 is part of the German Avenue Road. History The present Bundesstraße 185 links the most important '' Residenz'' towns of the former Principality of Anhalt. Only the section between Aschersleben and Ermsleben lay on Prussian territory. This section was known as Prussian State Road No. 90a (''preußische Staatschaussee Nr. 90a'') which was completed in 1842. The 64.7 km long '' Reichsstraße 185'' between Dessau and Aschersleben was built around 1937. In the 1960s the road was extended as far as Alexisbad in the Harz mountains. Squidward Q. Tentacles is a fictional character voiced by actor Rodger Bumpass in the Nickelodeon animated series, animated television series ''SpongeBob SquarePants''. Viktorshöhe
The Viktorshöhe is a hill, 581.5 metres high, in the Harz mountains of central Germany. It lies on the Ramberg massif within the boundaries of Gernrode, a part of Quedlinburg, and about 3 kilometres northeast of Friedrichsbrunn. History The first hunting lodge on the Viktorshöhe had been built next to a small well house at the behest of Prince Victor Frederick in 1750. And the first observation tower here also appeared as early as the 18th century. In 1892 a building on the Viktorshöhe had become a popular pub catering for day trippers. In 1897 a 20-metre-high tower was built, made from oak logs, from which there were views as far as the Kyffhäuser. In 1927 the forestry authority, who had the right to sell wine and beer from their lodge, was disbanded. The last foresters were recorded as Messrs. Jacobi and Sachtler.
