Márkomeannu
Márkomeannu is a Sami people, Sami cultural and music festival in Norway. The festival is held near the border of Tjeldsund Municipality in Troms county and Evenes Municipality in Nordland county. The idea behind Márkomeannu is to celebrate the culture and traditions of the Sámi peoples, Sámi villages. Until 2006, the festival was organized by the youth association , but starting in 2007, it has been organized by its own association, . In the first two years, the festival was held at the zoo near Evenes Airport, but since 2002 has been held at the Sami open-air museum, east of the village of Vatnjavárri. Márkomeannu consists of concerts, exhibitions, seminars, and theater. The festival had 2,800 attendees in 2008. The festival received the Troms County Council's cultural award in 2017. Vatnjavárri
or is a Sámi hamlet or small village in Tjeldsund Municipality in Troms county, Norway. The village is located about southeast of the village of Evenskjer and about north of the Harstad/Narvik Airport. The hamlet was home to the ''Boltås skole'' (), a bilingual Sámi– Norwegian public primary school. The school closed in 2013 at which time it had 25 students in seven classes. Historically, this village was part of Skånland Municipality until 1 January 2020 when it became part of Tjeldsund Municipality or is a List of municipalities of Norway, municipality in Troms Counties of Norway, county, Norway.
