The Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra ( 'OFM') is a Spanish orchestra based in Málaga. Founded in 1991, the Philharmonic plays regularly at the in Málaga. Since 2014, its principal conductor has been Manuel Hernández-Silva. History The Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra (Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga) held its inaugural concert on 14 February 1991. The Málaga Town Council and the Regional Government of Andalusia collaborated to establish the Orquesta Ciudad de Málaga (City Orchestra of Málaga), reflecting the belief that Málaga deserved its own symphony orchestra. The orchestra has hosted a distinguished roster of guest conductors, including Jesús López Cobos, Philippe Entremont, Juanjo Mena, Sergiu Comissiona, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Antoni Ros-Marbà, Nicholas Milton, and Yoav Talmi to name but a few. Málaga
Málaga (; ) is a Municipalities in Spain, municipality of Spain, capital of the Province of Málaga, in the Autonomous communities of Spain, autonomous community of Andalusia. Carlos Álvarez (baritone)
Carlos Álvarez (born 1966 in Málaga) is a Spanish baritone who has had a international opera career since the early 1990s. His recording of the title role in Isaac Albéniz's ''Merlin (opera), Merlin'' with Plácido Domingo as King Arthur won a Latin Grammy Award in 2001, and his recording of the role of Ford in Giuseppe Verdi's ''Falstaff (opera), Falstaff'' won the Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording in 2006. Edmon Colomer is a Spanish conductor from Barcelona. He conducted Joaquín Rodrigo's ''Concierto de Aranjuez'' in 1991, in which Paco de Lucia Paco is a Spanish nickname for Francisco. Odón Alonso Ordás (28 February 1925 – 21 February 2011) was a Spanish conducting, conductor and composer, best known for his film scores. Alonso was born at La Bañeza, León, Spain. He studied in Madrid, Siena, Salzburg and Vienna. His first engagements as a conductor date back to the years between 1952 and 1956 when he was performing with the orchestra and chorus of the Spanish National Radio station. In 1960 he took on the position of principal conductor at the Philharmonic Orchestra of Madrid; between 1968 and 1984, Alonso was musical director of the Radio Symphony Orchestra of the Spanish Broadcasting (''Orquesta Sinfónica de Radio Televisión Española''). Asier Polo is a Spanish cellist. Biography Polo was born in Bilbao, Spain where he studied at the Conservatory of Music with Professor Elisa Pascu. In 1987-89, he won first prizes in cello and chamber music at the National Young Musicians Competition. Later, he studied at the Queen Sofía College of Music, Reina Sofía School of Music, and with Maria Kliegel at the Hochschule fur Musik in Cologne and with Ivan Monighetti at the Basel Academy of Music. Polo has participated in master classes with Natalia Gutman and Mstislav Rostropovich. Julian Rachlin (born 8 December 1974) is a Lithuanian-born violinist, violist and conductor. Biography Born in Vilnius to a Jewish family, he emigrated in 1978 with his musician parents to Austria. In 1983, he entered the Konservatorium Wien and studied violin in the Soviet tradition with Boris Kuschnir, while also receiving private lessons from Pinchas Zukerman. His career as a child prodigy began with his first public concert in 1984. In 1988, he took the title of Eurovision Young Musician of the Year, which led to his being invited to appear at the Berlin Festival with Lorin Maazel and to his becoming the youngest soloist to ever play with the Vienna Philharmonic, under the direction of Riccardo Muti. Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider (born 5 July 1975 in Copenhagen, Denmark) is a Danish violinist and conductor. Biography Szeps-Znaider was born in Copenhagen to Polish-Jewish parents. His father had originally emigrated from Poland to Israel, and his mother's family had settled in Denmark before World War II. His teachers have included Milan Vitek and Boris Kuschnir. In June 1992, Szeps-Znaider won the first prize of the 4th International Carl Nielsen International Music Competition.
