Mzia Amaghlobeli (or Amaglobeli) ( Georgian: მზია ამაღლობელი, born 12 May 1975) is a Georgian journalist, a co-founder and a director of online media outlets Batumelebi and Netgazeti. On 12 January 2025, during the protests in Georgia, Mzia Amaglobeli was arrested on charges of attacking a police officer after she slapped the head of Batumi Police, Irakli Dgebuadze, in response to his repeated verbal abuse towards her. The article she was charged under carries a prison sentence of 4 to 7 years. Transparency International has described her imprisonment as unconstitutional and unlawful, maintaining that Amaglobeli is being punished "for exposing the regime’s corruption and other unlawful activities over the years." After her arrest, Amaglobeli began a hunger strike that lasted 38 days. According to her, this was a form of protest against injustice. Shuakhevi
Shuakhevi ( ka, შუახევი ) is a small town in Georgia's Autonomous Republic of Adjara, 67 km east to the regional capital Batumi. Situated on the right bank of the Adjaristsqali River, it is an administrative center of Shuakhevi District, which comprises the town itself and 67 adjoining mountainous villages. The area of the district is 588 km2; population – 15,044 (2014). There is a plant to build Shuakhevi hydro power plant, a run-of-the-river plant with installed capacity of 185 MW with expected electricity output of 452 GWh.Project summary document on Shuakhevi HPP.
