Myrmidons
In Greek mythology, the Myrmidons (or Myrmidones; el, Μυρμιδόνες) were an ancient Thessalian Greek tribe. In Homer's ''Iliad'', the Myrmidons are the soldiers commanded by Achilles. Their eponymous ancestor was Myrmidon, a king of Phthiotis who was a son of Zeus and "wide-ruling" Eurymedousa, a princess of Phthiotis. She was seduced by him in the form of an ant. An etiological myth of their origins, simply expanding upon their supposed etymology—the name in Classical Greek was interpreted as "ant-people", from ''murmekes'', "ants"—was first mentioned by Ovid, in ''Metamorphoses'': in Ovid's telling, the Myrmidons were simple worker ants on the island of Aegina. Myrmidon Club
The Myrmidon Club is a dining club elected from the members of Merton College, Oxford, and with a continuous history exceeding 150 years. Until recently, the club was single-sex, and an equivalent club for women, named the Myrmaids, was established following the college's decision to admit women students in 1980. It is now a mixed-gender society. History Founded in 1865, it is one of the handful of such clubs with an almost continuous existence from the second half of the 19th century. It once maintained private rooms on the High Street, but in common with most similar clubs it no longer has private accommodation. Myrmidon Of Athens
Myrmidon ( el, Mυρμιδών; lived 4th century BC) was an Athenian who commanded a force of ten thousand mercenaries, which formed part of the reinforcements sent by Ptolemy, under the overall command of his brother Menelaus, to effect the reduction of Cyprus, in 315 BC. He was afterwards dispatched to the assistance of Asander in Caria, against the generals of Antigonus Monophthalmus. is a fantasy tactical role-playing game franchise developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. First produced and published for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Famicom in 1990, the series currently consists of sixteen core entries and five spinoffs. Myrmidon (hero)
In Greek mythology, Myrmidon ( or ; grc, Μυρμιδόνος) was the eponymous ancestor of the Myrmidons in one version of the myth. Family Myrmidon was the son of Zeus and Eurymedusa, daughter of Cleitor (Cletor) or of the river god Achelous. He married Peisidice, daughter of Aeolus and Enarete, and by her became the father of Antiphus and Actor. Also given as his sons were Erysichthon and Dioplethes, father of Perieres, although Erysichthon and Perieres have been ascribed with different parentage. Also, Myrmidon had two daughters: Eupolemeia (mother of the Argonaut Aethalides by Hermes) and Hiscilla (mother of Phorbas by Triopas).
