Asia Pacific Bowls Championships
The Asia Pacific Bowls Championships formerly the Pacific Rim Championships was a lawn bowling competition held between national bowls organisations in the Asia Pacific region. The event was inaugurated in 1985, and it was initially held every two years but then took place every four years and was a qualifying event for the World Outdoor Bowls Championships. In 2021, the 2020 World Outdoor Bowls Championship was officially cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. World Bowls then decided that the World Championships would take place every two years starting in 2023. Bowls, also known as lawn bowls or lawn bowling, is a sport in which the objective is to roll biased balls so that they stop close to a smaller ball called a "jack" or "kitty". It is played on a bowling green, which may be flat (for "flat-green bowls") or convex or uneven (for " crown green bowls"). Anne Nunes (born 30 May 1969) is a United States lawn bowls international. Bowls career In 2001, Nunes won a pairs bronze medal at the Asia Pacific Bowls Championships, 14 years later she won a second medal at the Championships winning a fours silver medal in Christchurch, New Zealand. Nunes competed at the 2016 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Christchurch and four years later in 2020, was selected for the 2020 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Australia but the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, she was selected again as part of the team to represent the USA at the 2023 World Outdoor Bowls Championship. She participated in the women's singles and the women's pairs events. Shortly after the World Championships and still on the Gold Coast, Nunes was a surprise winner of the World Singles Champion of Champions title to become the first US winner of the event.
