Mykola Storozhenko (painter)
Mykola (Nikolay Andreyevich) Storozhenko (24 September 1928 – 15 April 2015) was a Ukrainian painter., author and academic. Storozhenko won the 1988 Shevchenko National Prize among other awards. His works were exhibited in Asia, Europe and the United States. He was a professor and department head at the National Academy of Visual Arts and Architecture in Kiev for several decades. Early years Storozhenko was born on 24 September 1928, in the village of Viazove, Konotop District, in what was then the Soviet Union. In 1945, after completing his 7th year of school, Storozhenko entered Odessa State Art College where his teachers included M. A. Sheliuto and L. Y. Muchnyk. After graduating in 1950, he entered the Kyiv State Institute of Arts. His teachers were Tetyana Yablonska, M. A. Sharonov, and S. O. Sumy Oblast
Sumy Oblast (), also known as Sumshchyna (), is an oblast (province) in northeast Ukraine. The oblast was created in its modern-day form, from the merging of raions from Kharkiv Oblast, Chernihiv Oblast, and Poltava Oblast in 1939 by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union. Oksana Stefanivna Zabuzhko (, born 19 September 1960) is a Ukrainian novelist, poet, and essayist. Her works have been translated into several languages. Life Zabuzhko was born 19 September 1960 in Lutsk, Ukraine. The writer's father, Stefan (Stepan) Ivanovych Zabuzhko (1926-1983) was a teacher, literary critic, and translator, the first to translate the stories of the Czech composer and writer Ilja Hurník into Ukrainian, and was repressed during Stalin's regime. According to Zabuzhko, she received her philological education at home. The repressions against the Ukrainian intelligentsia that began in September 1965 forced the family to leave Lutsk, and since 1968 she has lived in Kyiv.
