Myklebust Ship
The Myklebust Ship ( Norwegian: Myklebustskipet) is the remains of a burned Viking ship that was found in the burial mound Rundehågjen on the farm Myklebust in Nordfjordeid, Norway. In terms of total volume the Myklebust ship is the largest Viking ship that has been discovered in the world to date. Excavation The archaeologist Anders Lorange traveled to Nordfjordeid from Bergen in 1874 to investigate the large burial mound locally called “Rundehågjen” or “Lisje Skjoratippen”. The mound stands on the Myklebust farm, a farm which used to house 5 burial mounds, and is believed to have been the home of a Viking Dynasty, led by among others the Viking King Audbjørn Frøybjørnson of the Firda Kingdom. The mound was approximately 30 meters in diameter, and almost 4 meters tall. It also had a wide moat around it. Thor Myklebust (30 June 1908 – 11 January 1989) was a Norwegian politician for the Liberal Party and later the Liberal People's Party. He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from Hordaland in 1965, and was re-elected on one occasion. During his second term, in December 1972, Myklebust joined the Liberal People's Party which split from the Liberal Party over disagreements of Norway's proposed entry to the European Economic Community. He had previously served in the position of deputy representative during the terms 1954–1957 and 1961–1965, and later served in the same position during the term 1973–1977. Ole Jørn Myklebust (born 30 April 1977) is a Norwegian Jazz musician (trumpet, flugelhorn and vocals), educated at the Norges Musikkhøgskole. Known for performing in Subtonic, Køhn/Johansen Sextet, Geir Lysne Listening Ensemble, Østenfor Sol and Dixi, Myklebust has collaborated with Mari Boine and Unni Wilhelmsen. He was born in Eidsdal. Career Myklebust was voted "The Best Young Jazz Musicians in Norway" in 2000. He has also played with the band Østenfor Sol, in addition to Mari Boine's and Unni Wilhelmsen's bands. Myklebust also works as composer, musical arranger and producer. He has composed music for TV, film, and documentaries. Oddmund Myklebust (21 April 1915 – 14 September 1972) was a Norwegian fisher and politician for the Centre Party. He was born in Sandøy Municipality. Einar Frithjof Myklebust (17 May 1922 – 9 June 2017), was a Norwegian architect and professor at NTH (now ( NTNU). Einar Myklebust worked between 1953–1964 together with the architect Gunnar Fougner. He was professor from 1964–1970 in Byggekunst IV (monumental architecture), architecture department, Norwegian Institute of Technology (now Norwegian University of Science and Technology), Trondheim. Egil Myklebust (born 9 June 1942) is a Norwegian businessperson and lawyer. Since 2001 he has been chairman of the board of SAS Group. Born in Kvinnherad, Myklebust took a law degree from the University of Oslo in 1967, before starting work with the Norwegian Welfare Services (1968 to 1971). After that he worked at Norsk Hydro from 1971 to 2001, the ten last as chief executive officer. After he retired of CEO of Norsk Hydro he took over as chairman of the board of Norsk Hydro (until 2004) and SAS Group, as well as deputy board chairman of Norske Skog.
