''My Sassy Girl'' () is a 2001 South Korean romantic comedy film directed by Kwak Jae-yong, starring Jun Ji-hyun and Cha Tae-hyun. The film is based on a true story told in a series of blog posts written by Kim Ho-sik, who later adapted them into a fictional novel. The film was very successful in South Korea, where it was the highest-grossing comedy of all time, and one of the top five highest-grossing films ever at the time. When ''My Sassy Girl'' was released across East Asia, it became a blockbuster in the region, becoming a hit in Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The film's success in Asia drew comparisons to ''Titanic''. Kwak Jae-yong
Kwak Jae-yong (born 22 May 1959) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. He studied physics at Kyung Hee University. He achieved success with his debut film ''Watercolor Painting in a Rainy Day'' in 1989, but the failure of his next two movies led to eight years of unemployment before a comeback with the smash-hit film ''My Sassy Girl'' in 2001. He is known for his fondness of love stories set in a mix of different genres. Douban.com (), launched on 6 March 2005, is a Chinese online database and social networking service that allows registered users to record information and create content related to film, books, music, recent events, and activities in Chinese cities. Douban is named after a hutong in Chaoyang District, Beijing where the founder lived while he began work on the website. Douban was formerly open to both registered and unregistered users. For registered users, the website recommends potentially interesting books, movies, and music to them in addition to serving as a social network website such as WeChat, Weibo and record keeper. For unregistered users, the website is a place to find ratings and reviews of media. Douban has about 200 million registered users as of 2013 and some Chinese authors as well as critics register their official personal pages on the site. ''Allkpop'' (stylized in all lowercase) is an American website which features Korean pop and gossip news. It is one of the most trafficked K-pop news sites, with over seven and half million readers per month. In its list of useful websites, ''The Korea Herald'' called it the "fastest news breaker" for K-pop. Controversies In 2010, Tablo of Korean hip-hop trio Epik High alleged that allkpop had been sharing pirated links to the group's '' Epilogue'' album, including "a leaked music video of 'Run' and illegal streaming of all our songs" on his personal Twitter account. Tablo has since removed the posts. In 2013, scandal broke out again when solo K-pop artist Ailee's private, nude pictures were leaked with the allkpop logo posted across blurred photos in their coverage. This film, a sequel to ''My Sassy Girl'' (2001), was released in China on April 22, 2016 and released in South Korea on May 12, 2016. Plot Gyun-woo is having difficulty forgetting The Girl of ''My Sassy Girl'' (2001) since she decides to leave him and take refuge as a Buddhist. He then reunites with his childhood sweetheart Sassy, an elementary school classmate from China who was often teased because of her broken Korean. is a Japanese actor, singer, television host, and a former member of SMAP, one of the best-selling boy bands in Asia. Early life Kusanagi grew up in Kasukabe, Saitama, Japan.
