"My Marge" is a song performed by English group The Move for their final album ''Message from the Country,'' where it was the 10th and final track. The song was written and produced by both Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne, and recorded at Phillips Studios in 1971. The Move
The Move were a British Rock music, rock band formed in Birmingham in 1965. They scored nine Top 40, top 20 UK singles in five years, but were among the most popular British bands not to find any real success in the United States. For most of their career The Move were led by guitarist, singer and songwriter Roy Wood. He wrote all the group's UK singles and, from 1968, also sang lead vocals on many songs. Initially, the band had four main vocalists (Wood, Carl Wayne, Trevor Burton, and Ace Kefford, Chris "Ace" Kefford) who divided the lead-vocal duties among themselves. The Move evolved from several mid-1960s Birmingham-based groups, including Carl Wayne & the Vikings, the Nightriders, and the Mayfair Set. ''Message from the Country'' is the fourth and final studio album by the Move, as well as the group's only album for EMI's Harvest Records, Harvest label. It was recorded simultaneously with the first Electric Light Orchestra album, ''The Electric Light Orchestra (album), The Electric Light Orchestra'' (or ''No Answer'' as it was called in the United States). Recorded due to a contractual obligation with EMI for one more Move album, its release signaled the end of The Move (except for three final singles), allowing the band to transition into the Electric Light Orchestra. "Tonight" is a song recorded by The Move and was written by Roy Wood originally for pop vocal group The New Seekers. Released in 1971, The Move's version was their first single release on the Harvest Records, Harvest label, and charted at number 11 on the UK Singles Chart. In Denmark, it charted at number seven. The song peaked at number 89 in Australia. Jeff Lynne, who had joined the group the previous year, took lead vocal on the third verse. The single was issued in the US on Capitol Records, Capitol. Harvest Records is a British-American record label belonging to Capitol Music Group, originally created by EMI in 1969. History Harvest Records was created by EMI in 1969 to market progressive rock music, and to compete with Philips' Vertigo and Decca's Deram labels, and the independent Island label. Roy Wood
Roy Wood (born 8 November 1946) is an English musician, singer and songwriter. He was particularly successful in the 1960s and 1970s as member and co-founder of the Move, Electric Light Orchestra and Wizzard. Wood formed the Move in 1965, and had hits including " Flowers in the Rain". While the Move were still together, Wood, along with his band colleagues Jeff Lynne and Bev Bevan, founded Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), which was later to gain major commercial success. After increasing tensions, Wood left ELO in 1972 and formed a new group, Wizzard, who had seven hits, including Wood's most regularly broadcast song, " I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day". As a songwriter, Wood contributed a number of hits to the repertoire of the Move, ELO and Wizzard. Jeff Lynne
Jeffrey Lynne (born 30 December 1947) is an English musician, singer-songwriter and record producer. He is the co-founder and, latterly, sole member of the rock band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) which was formed in 1970. He has written all of the band's music since 1972, including hits such as " Evil Woman", " Livin' Thing", "Telephone Line", " Mr. Blue Sky", " Don't Bring Me Down" and " Hold On Tight". He also has had a solo career, with two albums: '' Armchair Theatre'' (1990) and ''Long Wave'' (2012). Born in Birmingham, Lynne became interested in music during his youth and was heavily inspired by the Beatles. When Alice Comes Back To The Farm
"When Alice Comes Back to the Farm" is a rock-blues song recorded by The Move and written and sung by Roy Wood, who also produced the track alongside fellow member Jeff Lynne. The song was first released as a single on the 9th of October, 1970 (backed with "What?"), before it became the fourth track on the band's third studio album, ''Looking On'', on the 11th of December. Musically, it is a hard rock song and features Wood playing slide guitar, cello and baritone saxophone, reinforcing Rick Price's bassline. Background and recording A potential B-side, an untitled "10538 Overture", recorded on 12 July 1970, ended up being used by the members as the first Electric Light Orchestra single rather than the B-side. Chinatown (The Move Song)
"Chinatown" is a single performed by English band The Move. Released in 1971, the song reached number 23 on the UK Singles Chart. It was recorded at the same time as the band's alter-ego Electric Light Orchestra were laying down tracks for their first album. Former Move vocalist Carl Wayne said it was his favourite single by the band. ''Record World'' said that the Move "sound ready to move with this artfully crafted side of Anglo-pop." The B-side was the Jeff Lynne-penned song "Down on the Bay". In the US, the single (with an edited version of "Chinatown") was issued on MGM, but quickly withdrawn (probably before regular stock copies were pressed, although yellow label promos have been seen).
