The Dutch Institute for Sound and Vision (, ''NIBG'') is an archive center and museum located in Hilversum. It collects, preserves, and provides access to most of the Dutch audiovisual collection. In total, the institute has more than 750,000 hours of material dating back to 1898, making it one of the largest audiovisual archives in Europe. It was founded in 1997 as the Dutch Audiovisual Archive (, ''NAA''), and adopted its current name in 2002. Its history goes back to 1919, with the foundation of the , being one of its precursors. Sound and Vision is the business archive of the national broadcasting corporations, a cultural heritage institute (providing access to students and the general public) and also a museum for its visitors. Media Park () is a large business park in the Dutch city of Hilversum. This site is home to a number of Dutch broadcasters and media companies, and is the headquarters of the national public broadcasting system NPO. Notable events On 6 May 2002, right-wing politician Pim Fortuyn was assassinated in a car park outside a studio after a radio interview with Ruud de Wild at 3FM. On 29 January 2015, a 19-year-old man invaded the NOS building, carrying a fake pistol and taking a hostage; he claimed to be part of a hackers' collective, and demanded ten minutes of airtime on the 8p.m. edition of NOS Journaal; however, he was swiftly overpowered by police and arrested. Radio Garden
Radio Garden is a non-profit Dutch radio and digital research project developed from 2013 to 2016 by the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision (under the supervision of Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg's Golo Föllmer), by the Transnational Radio Knowledge Platform and five other European universities. In 2016 it provided access to nearly 8,000 radio stations and The Radio Conference 2016: Transnational Encounters said that it went viral. The service reported a collection of over 40,000 stations in 2024.
