Muuruvesi Church
Muuruvesi is a village and a former municipality of Finland at the time of its existence in the Kuopio Province, now in Northern Savonia. Together with Säyneinen, it was consolidated with Juankoski in 1971, since 2017 part of Kuopio. Geography The municipality bordered Juankoski, Säyneinen, Nilsiä, Kaavi, Tuusniemi, Riistavesi and Siilinjärvi. Villages History Muuruvesi has existed at least since the 1620s. At the time, it was a part of the Kuopio parish. As Nilsiä became a chapel community under Kuopio in 1769, Muuruvesi became a part of it. Nilsiä became a separate parish in 1816. A division of the Nilsiä parish was ordered in 1899, splitting Muuruvesi and Varpaisjärvi from it, however Muuruvesi only became a functional parish in 1900 and started producing its own church registers in 1908. Nilsiä is a former small town and a municipality of Finland. It joined the city of Kuopio at the beginning of year 2013. It is located in the Northern Savonia region. Kuopion maalaiskunta was a municipality in eastern Finland in Kuopio Province. The municipality was disbanded in early 1969. Most of the area of Kuopion maalaiskunta was connected to the city of Kuopio, but two villages of Kuopion maalaiskunta, Kehvo and Väänälänranta, were connected to Siilinjärvi. Siilinjärvi
Siilinjärvi () is a municipality of Finland. It is located in Northern Savonia, north of the city of Kuopio, which largely surrounds Siilinjärvi. Another neighbour municipality with Kuopio is Lapinlahti. The name, in Finnish, apparently translates literally as "Hedgehog's Lake", although its etymology actually stems from a Sámi word meaning "winter dwelling". Lakes are essential part of the geography of Siilinjärvi. There are 123 lakes, and the biggest of them are Kallavesi and Juurusvesi–Akonvesi. Water area is 106.85 km2, which is 21% of the whole area of Siilinjärvi. The median age is relatively low; 23% of the population are under 15 years old. Finland had always been a unitary state: the provincial authorities were part of the central government's executive branch and apart from Åland, the provinces had little autonomy.
