The Mutimbuzi River () is a river in Bujumbura Rural Province, Burundi. Watershed The Mutimbuzi River watershed is north of the city of Bujumbura between 3°12’00" and 3°24’30" South latitude and 29°19’00" and 29°34’00" East longitude. Although the Mutimbuzi River is a tributary of Lake Tanganyika, it drains part of the Ruzizi plain. The watershed includes parts of three ecoclimatic regions: the Imbo plain, the Mumirwa foothills and the Congo-Nile ridge. Altitudes range from . The upper watershed is in a mountainous massif with steep slopes. Lower down it is in the Mumirwa foothills. The downstream part in the Imbo Plain has V-shaped valley with low slopes, and is most exposed to the risk of flooding. Bujumbura Rural Province
Bujumbura Rural Province is one of the eighteen provinces of Burundi. Former President Cyprien Ntaryamira was born here. It surrounds the former national capital Bujumbura and its provincial capital is Isale (commune), Isale. Location Bujumbura Rural Province is in the east of Burundi, to the east and north of Lake Tanganyika. In the northeast it borders the Democratic Republic of the Congo. To the north it borders Bubanza Province, to east it borders Muramvya Province and Mwaro Province, and to the south it borders Bururi Province. Mpanda River
The Mpanda River () is a river in Bubanza Province, Burundi. It is a tributary of the Ruzizi River. Course The Mpanda River and the Kajeke River are the only permanent tributaries of the Rusizi in its lower plain. The Mpanda rises near the crest of the Zaire-Nile ridge, and flows across the plain for about . About from the Rusizi it crosses an enormous expanse of marshes that connect to the Mutimbuzi River basin. The Mpanda rises in the Kibira National Park on the border between Muramvya Province and Bubanza Province. It flows west and then south-southwest through Bubanza Province past the towns of Mpanda and Murengeza, then flows southwest along the boundary between Bubanza Province and Bujumbura Rural Province. The Kanyosha River () is a river in Burundi that flows through the south of Bujumbura. Erosion of the banks is a constant issue in the urban areas it passes through. Course The Kanyosha River rises in central Bujumbura Rural Province and flows west past Buhonga to enter the south of Bujumbura Mairie Province, where it flows through the Commune of Muha and Commune of Kanyosha to its mouth on Lake Tanganyika. Melchior Ndadaye International Airport is an airport in Bujumbura, the former capital of Burundi. It is Burundi's only international airport and the only one with a paved runway.
