Muslim Serb
Serb Muslims ( sr-Cyrl, Срби муслимани, Srbi muslimani) or Serb Mohammedans ( sr-Cyrl, Срби мухамеданци, Srbi muhamedanci, links=no), also referred to as ''Čitaci'' ( sr-Cyrl, Читаци, links=no), are ethnic Serbs who are Muslims (adherents of Islam) by their religious affiliation. Use of the term Čitaci The term has several particular uses: *The term derived from the Turkish "Çıtacı", a word used to refer to traders who sell wooden boards. *In ethnographic, historical and comparative religious studies it is used as a designation for Islamized families of ethnic Serb descent. *It has been used as a self-identification (Čitaci) in former Yugoslavia. *It is used in historical studies to identify Ottoman people of Serb origin. *It is used for the Muslim population in the region of Sandžak (Serbia). Mehmed-paša Sokolović
Sokollu Mehmed Pasha (; ; ; 1505 – 11 October 1579) was an Ottoman Empire, Ottoman statesman of Serbs, Serb origin most notable for being the Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire. Born in Sanjak of Herzegovina, Ottoman Herzegovina into an Eastern Orthodox Church, Orthodox Christian family, Mehmed was recruited as a young boy as part of so called "blood tax" to serve as a janissary to the Ottoman devşirme system of recruiting Christian boys to be raised as officers or administrators for the state. He rose through the ranks of the Ottoman imperial system, eventually holding positions as commander of the imperial guard (1543–1546), List of Kapudan Pashas, High Admiral of the Fleet (1546–1551), Governor-General of Rumelia (1551–1555), Third Vizier (1555–1561), Second Vizier (1561–1565), and as Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire, Grand Vizier (1565–1579, for a total of 14 years, three months, 17 days) under three sultans: Suleiman the Magnificent, Selim II, and Murad III.Im ...
