Muslim Community Of Albania
The Muslim Community of Albania (KMSH; ) is an independent religious organisation of Muslims in Albania existing since February 24, 1923. The headquarters of the community are located in Tirana and the current Grand Mufti () is Bujar Spahiu. History Organized Islamic religious life in Albania has existed since the time the Ottoman Empire started administering this region. All Muslims who lived in the Ottoman Empire were part of the Muslim community headed by the Sultan, who replaced the role of the caliph. During the reign of the Murad II, Sultan Murad II the competencies of the caliph were transferred to the ''grand mufti''. Since then, the grand mufti was titled ''Shaykh al-Islām, Sheykhul-Islam'' and was considered the highest religious authority within the Ottoman Empire. However, every region inhabited by Muslims had its own mufti, who was in a lower position than the ''Sheykhul-Islam''. Vehbi Dibra (portrait)
Abdyl Aziz Vehbi Dibra Agolli (12 March 186724 March 1937) was an Albanian Islamic scholar and politician. He served as the first grand mufti of the Muslim Community of Albania. He was a delegate of Dibër at the Albanian Declaration of Independence. He was elected as chairman of the Elderly Assembly, the precursor to what is today the Parliament of Albania and the first Grand Mufti of the Muslim Community of Albania from 1920 to 1929. Vehbi Dibra will also be remembered as the main organizer of the Congress of Dibra. Life Vehbi Agolli was born in the city of Dibra on 12 March 1867 to Ahmet Effendi Agolli, mufti of Upper Debre. 2019 Albania Earthquake
Northwestern Albania was struck by a magnitude 6.4 earthquake with an epicentre 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) west-southwest of Mamurras, at 03:54 CET (UTC+1) on 26 November 2019. The earthquake lasted at least 50 seconds and was felt in Albania's capital Tirana, and in places as far away as Bari, Taranto and Belgrade, 370 kilometres (230 mi) northeast of the epicentre. Skënder Bruçaj
Skëndër Bruçaj was born on June 22, 1976, in the district of Malësia e Madhe, Albania. He served as chairman of Albanian Muslim Community from 2014 to 2019. His successor is Bujar Spahiu. The Gülen movement () or Hizmet movement () is an Islamist fraternal movement. It is a sub-sect of Sunni Islam based on a Nursian theological perspective as reflected in Fethullah Gülen's religious teachings.
