Musikhochschule Weimar
The University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar (in German: Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar) is an institution of music in Weimar, Germany. The Hochschule Franz Liszt, who spent a great deal of his life in Weimar, encouraged the founding of a school in 1835 for the education of musicians in orchestral instruments. It was his student Carl Müllerhartung who realized Liszt's dream, founding the university on 24 June 1872. Campus The university is located in several different buildings in the centre of Weimar. Weimar
Weimar is a city in the state (Germany), German state of Thuringia, in Central Germany (cultural area), Central Germany between Erfurt to the west and Jena to the east, southwest of Leipzig, north of Nuremberg and west of Dresden. Together with the neighbouring cities of Erfurt and Jena, it forms the central metropolitan area of Thuringia, with approximately 500,000 inhabitants. The city itself has a population of 65,000. Weimar is well known because of its cultural heritage and importance in German history. The city was a focal point of the German Enlightenment and home of the leading literary figures of Weimar Classicism, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Schiller. Waldemar Von Baußnern
Waldemar Edler von Baußnern (also ''Baussnern'' or ''Bausznern''; 29 November 1866 – 20 August 1931) was a German composer and music teacher. Life Born in Berlin, and descended from Transylvanian Saxons, Baußnern was the son of a financial official. He grew up in both Transylvania and Budapest in the Austro-Hungarian Empire (in present-day Romania and Hungary respectively). Between 1882–1886 he was a student of Friedrich Kiel and Woldemar Bargiel at the Berlin Musical Academy (Berliner Musikhochschule). He then conducted various choirs; after 1909 he became director of the Großherzoglichen Musikschule in Weimar. From 1916 to 1923 he served as director of the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt am Main. In 1923, he became undersecretary of the Academy of Arts, Berlin. He died in Potsdam. Music Schools In Germany
Music schools in Germany cater to pupils from an early age up to postgraduate students. They exist within and outside the formal education system. Musikschulen Public Music Schools are foundations for the musical education of children, adolescents and adults. They are usually in public ownership. Richard Wetz
Richard Wetz (26 February 1875 – 16 January 1935) was a German late Romantic composer best known for his three symphonies. In these works, he "seems to have aimed to be an immediate continuation of Bruckner, as a result of which he actually ended up on the margin of music history". Biography 1875–1906: Youth Richard Wetz was born to a merchant family in Gleiwitz, Upper Silesia (now Poland). Although his family owned a piano, no family member was particularly interested in music. The young Richard, who felt drawn to music early on, did not receive regular piano lessons until the age of eight years, but quickly taught himself by composing smaller piano and song pieces. Klaus Storck
Klaus Storck (11 February 1928 – 18 March 2011) was a German cellist who appeared internationally as soloist and chamber musician. He also edited music for cello. He often appeared in a duo with his wife, the harpist Helga Storck, and composers wrote music for them. Life Storck was born in Berlin. He received his first cello lessons at the age of eight. After transferring to the Musisches Gymnasium Frankfurt, he studied there with Rudolf Metzmacher. From autumn 1946, Storck studied at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold with Hans Münch-Holland. Manfred Schmitz
Manfred Schmitz (25 April 1939 – 7 July 2014) was a German composer and pianist. Biography He received a degree in piano at the Franz-Liszt Academy in Weimar, where he later taught from 1968 to 1984. After 1984, Schmitz acted as a freelance composer and performer, then he moved to Berlin and taught at the Köpenick Music School. He was also involved with AMA-Verlag. a publishing house for mostly pedagogical music and recordings. He died in 2014 of cancer. Schmitz wrote numerous short educational pieces in contemporary styles, especially jazz. These include a musical, ''Max und Moritz'', widely popular in music schools in Germany. Monika Rost (born 21 February 1943)Józef Powroźniak: ''Gitarren-Lexikon'' (Berlin: Verlag Neue Musik, 1986), p.180. is a classical guitarist, lute player and musicologist. She studied with Ursula Peter at the Hochschule für Musik "Franz Liszt", Weimar, Liszt School of Music Weimar, Germany, and later became Professor and Head of Guitar there herself. She has performed in many countries, both solo and in a duo with Jürgen Rost, and has made a number of recordings. She has won many first prizes, including the Concours International de la Guitare in Paris (Radio France), "with special honours from the jury". Nicolás Pasquet (born 1958) is a conductor from Uruguay and professor of conducting. Biography Born in 1958 in Montevideo, Uruguay, Pasquet studied violin and conducting at the National Music College. He later studied in Germany, violin at the Stuttgart College of Music and conducting in Nürnberg. Michael Obst (born 30 November 1955) is a German composer and pianist. Life Obst was born in Frankfurt am Main. He studied music education from 1973 to 1978 in Mainz, and from 1977 to 1982 studied piano with Alfons Kontarsky and Aloys Kontarsky at the Hochschule für Musik Köln, where he sat his piano examination in 1982. Robin Minard
Robin Minard (born 1953) is a Canadian composer and installation artist. Minard was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He began his studies of composition at the University of Western Ontario, then at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal, studying under Gilles Tremblay. He then continued his studies with John Rea at McGill University. He was a member of the music design and performance ensemble Sonde from 1979 to 1988. In 1988 he undertook doctoral studies in environmental music at the University of Paris VIII studying under composer Horacio Vaggione. From 1992 to 1996 he taught at the studio for electronic music at the TU Berlin. Dorothee Mields (born 15 April 1971) is a German soprano concert singer of Baroque and contemporary music. Career Mields was born in Gelsenkirchen. She studied at the University of the Arts Bremen with Elke Holzmann, Harry van der Kamp and Gabriele Schreckenbach. After graduation she continued studying in Stuttgart with Julia Hamari.
