Museum Of Perth
The Museum of Perth is a private, non-profit museum located in the Atlas Building, 8-10 The Esplanade (opposite Elizabeth Quay), in Perth, Western Australia. It aims to chronicle the social, cultural, political and architectural history of Perth. Beginnings It began life as a virtual museum on the social media site Twitter in October 2012, created by Dallas Robertson, a museum studies student at Edith Cowan University. It was expanded into Facebook the following year. Following an online article about the Twitter page from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (Perth) in 2013, Perth City councillor Reece Harley approached Robertson with the view to opening a bricks and mortar version of the museum. Atlas Building, Perth
The Atlas Building is a heritage-listed building in Perth, Western Australia. It is located in the Perth central business district at 8–10 The Esplanade, and sits along the south-western side of Sherwood Court. The construction of the building in the 1930s was well documented. The building was constructed for the Atlas Assurance Company, in an Inter-War Free Classical style, with an art-deco entrance and elevator. It has historical significance both architecturally and as one of few commercial developments in Perth constructed during the depression years. The Esplanade (Perth)
The Esplanade is a road between Barrack Street and William Street in the Perth central business district. It has been regularly confused with the former reserve Esplanade Reserve, that existed before the creation of Elizabeth Quay. It follows the edge of the Elizabeth Quay area that has been developed on Perth Water, and has had notable buildings and areas adjacent to its short route. Elizabeth Quay
Elizabeth Quay is a mixed-use development project in the Perth central business district. Focusing on an area located on the north shore of Perth Water near the landmark Swan Bells, the precinct being developed by the project was named in honour of the former Queen Elizabeth II during her Diamond Jubilee. The project includes construction of an artificial inlet on what was previously the Esplanade Reserve, and modifications to the surrounding environs including Barrack Square. The project plan shows nine building sites. Completed facilities are projected to include 1,700 residential apartments, of office space and of retail space. Edith Cowan University
