Murt Connor
Mortimer "Murt" Connor (born 1951) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played as a left corner-forward for the Offaly county football team, Offaly senior team. Born in Walsh Island, County Offaly, Connor first played competitive Gaelic football in his youth. He came to prominence at underage levels with the Walsh Island GAA, Walsh Island club. Connor later won two Leinster Senior Club Football Championship, Leinster Club SFC medals and six Offaly Senior Football Championship, Offaly SFC medals with the Walsh Island senior team. He also played for Éire Óg GAA (Offaly), Éire Óg. Connor made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Offaly minor team. He later played for the under-21 team, winning a Leinster Under-21 Football Championship, Leinster U21FC medal. Walsh Island GAA
Walsh Island is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the village of Walsh Island in County Offaly, Ireland. With 12 Senior Football wins and 2 Leinster Championship wins, they are one of the most successful clubs in the Offaly. History Before the club was formed in 1930, many players from Walsh Island played for nearby ''Geashill GAA''. It was decided that the club's colours would be the green and white hoops of Shamrock Rovers, the top football club in Ireland. The hoops did not clash with any club colours in North Offaly and were adopted as the colours. The first match played by Walsh Island was against Ballykeane. Tommy O'Connor (Gaelic Footballer)
Thomas O'Connor ( 1 April 1928 - 30 June 1987) was an Irish footballer who played for Shamrock Rovers. On 21 September 1949, together with Con Martin, Johnny Carey and Peter Farrell, he was also a member of the Ireland team that defeated England 2–0 at Goodison Park, becoming the first non- UK team to beat England at home. Career O'Connor first attracted attention while playing for Shamrock Rovers in the early part of the 1948–49 season. His impressive performances for Rovers led him to making four appearances for Ireland in 1949. He made his international debut on 8 September 1949 in a 3–0 win against Finland at Dalymount Park. The Offaly Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by top-tier Offaly GAA clubs. Liam O'Connor (Gaelic Footballer)
Liam O'Connor (13 September 1955 – 2 December 2013) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a full-back for the Offaly senior team. Born in Walsh Island, County Offaly, O'Connor arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-three when he first linked up with the Offaly senior team when he made his debut in the 1979 championship. O'Connor went on to play a key part for the Offaly defence over the next few years, and won an All-Ireland SFC medal and three Leinster SFC medals. He was also an All-Ireland SFC runner-up on one occasion. O'Connor was a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions throughout his career, however, he never won a Railway Cup medal. At club level he was a two-time Leinster medallist with Walsh Island. He also won six successive championship medals with the club. Throughout his career O'Connor made 20 championship appearances.
