Murray Thom
Murray Neville Thom (born 19 July 1957) is a New Zealand businessman and music producer. He is best known for his collaboration with pianist Carl Doy, which resulted in their Together 10-CD collection being featured as one of Oprah's Favorite Things of 2002. Locally, his production company, Thom Productions is best known for the 12× platinum Great New Zealand Songbook and The Great New Zealand Cookbook, which have also been released in numerous versions for other countries. Career Music Thom joined CBS Records International as a sales representative in 1979. He was appointed managing director of CBS in 1981, at that time the youngest CBS managing director in the world. Thom left the corporate life to establish his own business in 1986. He signed New Zealand recording artist Dave Dobbyn who had featured on the ''Footrot Flats'' album and together they produced the '' Loyal'' album. Carl Doy
Carl William Doy (born 1947) is a British-born New Zealand pianist, composer and arranger. One of New Zealand's most successful musicians, Doy is probably best known for his multi-platinum selling ''Piano By Candlelight'' albums. Life and career Doy was born in Camberley, Surrey, England. He drew an interest in music as early as six years of age after he fell in love with his grandmother's piano. Although he did not have a formal music education at that time, he had a natural gift for playing by ear, which he then used to play popular songs of the day. It was only when he was in the Grammar School, his talents were identified by his music teachers who guided him to take the preliminary exams at the Royal College of Music. At 18 years of age, he won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music and studied piano, organ and composition there for two years. Oprah's Favorite Things
"Oprah's Favorite Things" was an annual segment that appeared on ''The Oprah Winfrey Show'' from the 1990s to 2008 and 2010, as well as on ''Rachael Ray'' in 2017. In the segment, which airs during Thanksgiving week and was inspired by the holiday song " My Favorite Things" from ''The Sound of Music'', Oprah Winfrey shared products with her audience that she felt were noteworthy or that would make a great gift. In addition, the audience members that were present during the taping of the episode receive items from that year's list for free. The term is also sometimes used to describe a similar feature in ''O, The Oprah Magazine''; while that may formally have been named "The O List" in the past, it has more recently shared the "Oprah's Favorite Things" name. Dave Dobbyn
Sir David Joseph Dobbyn (born 3 January 1957) is a New Zealand musician, singer–songwriter and record producer. In his early career he was a member of the rock group Th' Dudes and was the main creative force in pop band DD Smash. Since then he has released the majority of his recordings as a solo performer. Early life Dave Dobbyn was born on 3 January 1957 in the working class area of Glen Innes, New Zealand, Glen Innes, (Auckland), the third of five children to tour-bus driver Terry Dobbyn and Molly. The hit single " Slice of Heaven" from the Footrot Flats soundtrack was also included on the album, despite it being nearly two years old at the time of the album release. Robert John Guest (17 July 19501 October 2008) was a New Zealand-Australian actor, television personality and host and singer, who started his career in pop music in New Zealand, before becoming best known for his work in Australian musical theatre, particularly in various productions of '' The Phantom of the Opera''. He played the lead for a record-breaking 2,289 performances over seven years, more than any other performer. Biography Guest was born in Birmingham, England. He moved to New Zealand with his family when he was 13, and later moved to Canada where he was in a band called The Apparition. The family returned to New Zealand and in 1968 Guest joined the band The Shore Thing who relaunched in 1969 as the Apparition. In 1970 Guest joined The In-Betweens as their vocalist.
