Murder Of Pascasio Báez
Pascasio Ramón Báez Mena (22 February 1925 – 21 December 1971) was a Uruguayan rural laborer who was murdered by the National Liberation Movement – Tupamaros, a far-left urban guerrilla group. His killing shocked Uruguayan society and became a symbol of the turmoil and insurgent violence that the country experienced in the 1960s and 1970s. Background Baéz was born in the rural area of the Department of Maldonado, the second of three children and only son of Dagoberto Báez and Margarita Pascasia Mena. By 1971, he lived in the city of Pan de Azúcar with his wife Alejandrina Garrido and their children, and made a living working in the fields as a laborer and as a bricklayer. Jorge Zabalza
Jorge Pedro Zabalza Waksman (30 November 1943 – 23 February 2022) was a Uruguayan politician and writer. He was a former leader within the political organization Tupamaros and former president of the ''Junta Departamental de Montevideo''. Biography Zabalza was the son of Mary Waksman and the National Party leader Pedro Zabalza Arrospide. He was active in the Uruguayan Anarchist Federation before becoming a founding member of Tupamaros. As a part of the organization, he took part in the largest robbery in Uruguayan history, in which 55 million pesos were taken from the San Rafael Casino in Punta del Este. His brother, Ricardo Zabalza Waksman, also a Tupamaro, was assassinated during the Taking of Pando on 8 October 1969. His cousin, Guillermo Waksman, was a journalist at '' Brecha''. Sodium Thiopental
Sodium thiopental, also known as Sodium Pentothal (a trademark of Abbott Laboratories), thiopental, thiopentone, or Trapanal (also a trademark), is a rapid-onset short-acting barbiturate general anesthetic. The history of Uruguay comprises different periods: the pre-Columbian time or early history (up to the 16th century), the Colonial Period (1516–1811), the Period of Nation-Building (1811–1830), and the history of Uruguay as an independent country (1830–present).
