Municipality Of Beverley
The Municipality of Beverley was a local government area in Western Australia centred on the town of Beverley. It was established on 31 March 1892, separating the township of Beverley from the surrounding Beverley Road District. The first election was held at the Beverley Court House on 6 July 1893. The council met at the Mechanics' Institute until it built a permanent council chambers in 1898, after which it operated out of the building for the remainder of its existence. The council chambers were deemed surplus to road board requirements after the municipality's abolition, and became the town's fire station before later becoming a doctor's surgery and then commercial offices. Beverley, Western Australia
Beverley is a town in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, south-east of the state capital, Perth, between York and Brookton on the Great Southern Highway. It is on the Great Southern railway line. History The town is believed to be named after Beverley in Yorkshire, from where some of the earliest explorers of the Avon valley originated, including Colonial Surgeon Charles Simmons, an early landowner in the district. Land at Beverley was set aside for a townsite in 1831, just two years after the Swan River Colony's foundation, after a glowing report to Governor James Stirling by Ensign (later Lieutenant) Robert Dale, who made three trips to the York-Beverley area. The Shire of Beverley is a local government area in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia about southeast of Perth, the state capital. The Shire covers an area of , starting outside Armadale in the Darling Scarp and extending eastwards beyond the scarp into agricultural lands which support broad acre activities such as livestock and cropping. Its seat of government is the town of Beverley, which accommodates just over half of the Shire's population. History The Beverley Road District was proclaimed on 24 January 1871. ''The Inquirer & Commercial News'' was a newspaper published in Perth, Western Australia from 1855 to 1901. In May 1847, Edmund Stirling acquired ''The Inquirer'' from Francis Lochée, who established the paper in August 1840 together with William Tanner. Tanner disposed of his interest in the paper in June 1843. In July 1855, ''The Inquirer'' merged with ''The Commercial News and Shipping Gazette'', which was owned by Robert John Sholl, to form ''The Inquirer & Commercial News'', in the joint ownership of Sholl and Stirling. Stirling's eldest son John joined the paper around 1863 and operated the paper with his father when Sholl left. ''The Beverley Times'' is a defunct English language newspaper that was published weekly in the Wheatbelt town of Beverley, Western Australia, between 1905 and 1977. History ''The Beverley Times'' first circulated on 22 July 1905 and was published by the manager Henry Courtney at The Beverley Times Newspaper and General Printing Office on Vincent Street, Beverley, for the proprietor Chas Dawson, Newcastle. Initially the newspaper shared its office space with the local Catholic Church who ran services in the front of the building, however in 1908 the building was sold to Athol Thomas who opened a news agency and continued to print ''The Beverley Times'' in the rear of the building.
